Bedlam Bash

The OU Wesley joined the OSU Wesley on January 29 for the annual Bedlam Bash. The event gives a time each year where the two Wesley Foundations  can get together for a little friendly rivalry.

Dear Friends,

It's hard to believe the spring semester is halfway over and spring break is just around the corner! Through the first half of the semester we have continued to reach new students averaging 5-10 new people every week in worship. We continue to train and equip students in the areas of discipleship and leadership, giving a handful of new and young students the opportunity to lead a small group and bringing many more new students on to our discipleship team. We also continue to reach the hurt and broken on our campus praising God for the opportunity to minister to students: struggling with drug, alcohol, and pornography addiction, battling severe social anxiety, grieving the loss of a parent, and struggling with depression. It's only through your faithfulness that we are blessed with the opportunity to be in ministry with so many incredible students. There are just two quick things I want to tell you about in this month's Enewsletter:

1. All Wesley Retreat

2. Veritas Forum

All Wesley Retreatretreat

retreatI had the pleasure of working with two wonderful colleagues in ministry (from the Denton Wesley and Kansas State Wesley) to put on this year's All Wesley Retreat. It was a weekend many of us will not soon forget.

Eighteen Wesley Foundations and 180 young people spent the weekend of February 18-20 making new friends and praising God at Crosspoint Camp. We were honored to have Bishop Bob Hayes (Oklahoma Annual Conference) and Bishop Scott Jones (Kansas Annual Conference) as our keynote speakers. These two men of God not only did a fabulous job connecting with our students, but they brought the Word and challenged our students to get real when it comes to discipleship and being the body of Christ to a hurt and broken world.

The students asked some very challenging and insightful questions during Saturday morning's "Ask a Bishop" seminar and both bishops did a great job responding to the students' questions and concerns. The students learned about global poverty, the art of worship, and United Methodist doctrine during some great afternoon breakout sessions.

It was a refreshing weekend to watch so many young people come together to worship and grow closer to Christ and to one another. Plans are already in the works for the 2012 All Wesley Retreat on February 17-19.

Veritas ForumVeritas

On Monday evening, April 4 the OU Wesley along with several other OU campus ministries will be hosting its Second Annual Veritas Forum.

Veritas is a national organization that helps campus ministries engage students and faculty in discussions about life's hardest questions and the relevance of Jesus Christ to all of life. We are excited to bring Dr. Ray Barfield to come and speak to the students and faculty of OU. Dr. Barfield is a professor of pediatrics at Duke Medical School and also a professor of philosophy and ethics at Duke Divinity School.

Prior to his time at Duke, Dr. Barfield worked for 8 years at St. Jude Hospital. Drawing from his personal experiences of working with dying children as well as his rich knowledge and interest in the fields of medicine and philosophy Dr. Barfield will be speaking on the topic of What Does it Mean to Be Human?"

We are extremely excited about this unique opportunity to explore this difficult question from an academic perspective with the goal of seeing what truth Jesus Christ and the Gospels have to say about it. This event is open to the public. If you are interested in more details and or would like to attend, don't hesitate to contact me.
