Promoting, Supporting and Sustaining
Arts, Culture and Heritage in the North Country

We're pleased to present our ArtsNorth e-bulletin for you and your guests, arranged by sub-regions from north to south and by date. Please be sure to confirm event details prior to attending. Use our "jump to" function (in the column to the left under the In This Issue section), which allows you to go directly to your geographic areas of interest. You can view our complete ArtsNorth calendar for additional details, and find events beyond the dates in this bulletin in our Plan-Ahead Arts Calendar. Links to both calendars are available in the Quick Links section. Please note that Arts Alliance member organizations are indicated with our member icon. We appreciate our members, and encourage you to attend their events -- and invite you, too, to join us as an individual, artist, family, business, school or institutional member (see http://aannh.org/membership.php for membership information).

If your organization is presenting a cultural event, email details to us as early as possible at events@aannh.org and we'll include it in the online ArtsNorth calendar and in our email bulletins. You can simply add events@aannh.org to your press list. Deadline for the next bulletin, covering July 24-August 6, is July 17.

Our Arts, Culture & Heritage in the White Mountains Summer 2008 to Spring 2009 Brochure is a great resource for visitors and residents. The North Country in summer isn't just a place to swim, bike and hike - it's also a true center for great music and theater, and for learning about New Hampshire heritage, art and craft. Each summer we print a brochure that helps visitors and residents of our region find exciting performance and viewing opportunities, highlighting more than 40 of our member organizations, large and small, and the performances, exhibits and events they're presenting this summer - and beyond. You can pick up a print copy at NH state rest areas and at cultural venues, and information and hospitality sites throughout the region. If you'd like us to mail you a copy, send a stamped, self-addressed envelope big enough for a 9" X 4" brochure to AANNH Guide, HC64 Box 223, Wonalancet NH 03897. We encourage you to ask your hosts at inns and restaurants to share them with guests. If you own a hotel or business -- or just expect lots of guests this summer -- and want multiple copies to distribute, please give us a call at 323-7302 or 638-2858.

We wish you a culture-ful summer -- and are working to give you easy access to information on summer arts programs throughout the region. Check out our new Free Summer Concerts in Northern NH page, linked here and from our website. And we'll be adding kids' and family events during the next week or two. Suggestions welcome!

Advance notice for Live Free and Eat Pie! North Country launches for Rebecca Rule's newest book: We're excited about our launch parties for one of our favorite people, storyteller/author Rebecca Rule, celebrating publication of her new book, Live Free and Eat Pie: A Storyteller's Guide to New Hampshire from Islandport Press. And we're glad to be partnering with our local bookstores (Village Book Store, Littleton, and Wonderland Book Store, Gorham) as well as with community and cultural organizations as Becky offers stories and reads from her new "guide," in which she tells how to talk -- and understand -- New Hampshire-ese, details the state's rich history, provides her take on great local activities and places to visit, explains how to dress like a native and much more. Books will, of course, be available for sale and Becky will be glad to sign your copy. She'll be in Littleton on Friday afternoon, July 25; in Colebrook on Saturday evening, July 26 telling stories as part of the Trinity United Methodist Church's anniversary celebration; and Berlin on Sunday afternoon, July 27 at Northern Forest Heritage Park, where they're offering a combination Book Launch/Boat Launch, with the option of a heritage boat tour on the Androscoggin following the signing. Come celebrate with us! Watch our website for details or call us at 323-7302 for additional information. And stay tuned for another party at White Birch Books in North Conway in September.
