Native American Ministries Sunday April 18
|
By Rev. Michelle Oberwise Lacock mickiol@aol.com Please encourage your leaders and congregations to give generously to the Native American Ministries Sunday offering. The special Sunday is April 18, 2010 but you can give online anytime throughout the year. A portion of these gifts go toward our annual Tipi Camp at Camp Reynoldswood, where Native youth and others have a chance to experience canoeing, archery, and other aspects of the old native ways. The weekend gives Native American youth who now live in an urban setting the opportunity to reconnect with nature. For more information about celebrating this special Sunday in worship, please see the GBOD website. |

Large grants for ministries that assist immigrants
|
The United Methodist Commission on Religion and Race is offering more than $250,000 in grant dollars to congregations or organizations that want to assist or protect immigrants.
The agency is offering several $40,000 grants to one-year projects, beginning January 1, 2011. The deadline for applying is June 15.
"These grants will assist church congregations and non-profit organizations in reaching out to assist those in our community who have suffered the double indignity of being mistreated because they are immigrants and being mistreated because they are racial ethnic immigrants," said Bishop Minerva Carcaņo, vice president of the commission and chair of the United Methodist Task Force on Immigration.
