For Whom Shall We Pray?

For those we hold dear and those we have commited to pray for.

I found this Jeremy Camp song comforting.

 Thanksgiving Happy

Right now, I would bet you are worried about something. You are likely overwhelmed by what isn't done and what could be done if you only had the time. You surely have sadness in your life in the form of anger, sickness, death or depression among you and your loved ones. Then there's money, or the lack of it. These are the thoughts and concerns that occupy our mind daily. These are the barriers to thankfulness.

In his book, Authentic Happiness: Using the New Positive Psychology to Realize Your Potential for L

asting Fulfillment, Dr. Martin E.P. Seligman outlines obstacles to happiness and gives some suggestions for improving our chances to become happy. Among his suggestions is that we end each day being mindful of at least three things for which we were thankful. This daily thankfulness seems to be an antidote to our worries. It is a reminder that, among our woes, there is much that is right about our lives.

I don't kno
w that Dr. Seligman is aware of the daily Examen made popular by Saint Ignatius Loyola but the exercise of being grateful is the first part of the Examen. It is not just a daily recollection of what we are thankful for, it is a daily reminder of God in our lives.

The Christmas season has its official start with Thanksgiving. How appropriate. Gathered with family, friends, ample food and a day away from the job Thanksgiving brings us to an acknowledgement of Christ's presence in our lives.

We Marianists celebrate Christmas every day by bringing the living Christ into the world just as Mary did. Perhaps there is also something to celebrating Thanksgiving every night. It would certainly make the world a happier place.

peace and love,

God Has a Plan and We Want One Too!

The MLNNA leadership team is working with Tony Fitzgerald (facilitator of the Society of Mary Vision 2020) to develop its own Strategic Plan. MLNNA will be asking stakeholders (that's just about anyone reading this) for input so don't be surprised if you get a call from an MLNNA leader seeking your counsel, wisdom, insights and vision.

God's Plan is still unfolding, but it is hoped that the MLNNA Plan will be completed by July, 2011.

Nazareth Community Prayer
by Jean Nickelman

The Marianist World Day of Prayer was observed on the Mt. St. John property  Sunday October 10th.  The prayer service began at 3 p.m. with the entire group saying the "3 O'clock Prayer."  The service focused on devotion to our Lady of Perpetual Help in union with the people of
Haiti. It included Brother Jack Somerville presided over the prayer service, which was organized by the Nazareth Lay Community.

Approximately 40 people from the Dayton area participated in this prayer service and lingered afterwards to enjoy fellowship.

Thank-you to those who have responded to our annual appeal for MLNNA SUPPORT

You received either an email or snail mail letter asking for your support a couple weeks ago. If you have not yet responded it isn't too late! You can support your Network of Lay Marianists either through the on-line secure link to
JUST GIVE
or via mail. (Network for Good our previous provider increased their service fees and we felt that we needed to find an alternative service provider.)

Your contributions support projects:

  * to assist lay community development (MLFI),
  * social justice through Marianist Social Justice Collaborative (MSJC)
  * our administrative office support which allowed us to print and distribute the new brochures on Characteristics of Lay Marianists.  This infrastructure also allowed us to quickly collect and distribute funds to our brothers and sisters in Haiti following the earthquake.

Please continue your inspirational, community and missionary work and give generously to support MLNNA. A gift of $10.00 a month or a one time gift suitable to your income will help us do more to support our Marianist ministry projects.

Thank you. Merci. Gracias. Mahalo. You are truly an inspiration as you continue to bring Christ into the world.

Editor's Reflection
By Jacqui Griswold

The Lord blessed the 100 year celebration on the Mount St. John property (Dayton OH) with a beautiful sunny Fall day Sunday, October 24, 2010.  I've been coming to Bergamo many years for retreats with my lay community so it has a special place in my heart. Our retreat this Fall coincided with the anniversary celebration so I stayed for the open house and explored many different locations on the campus than I'd not seen before, such as the NACMS offices and the facilities shop.  I also visited the Gallery Mount St. John where there was great music to accompany you around the exhibits.

The presentations in the Queen of Apostles chapel provided a view to all the
ways that the property has been used over the years and an inspirational vision of the great things things which lay ahead for the next 100 years.
I look forward to be being part of it.
Bergamo Welcome
