GO VEGETARIAN ONCE A WEEK

One less meat-based meal a week helps the planet and your diet.

For example: It requires 2,500 gallons of water to produce one pound of beef. You will also also save some trees. For each hamburger that originated from animals raised on rainforest land, ~55 square feet of forest have been destroyed.

Leadership Team meeting in Covington KY
May 30 - June 1, 2008

Bible
Mike & Paula Zeimski, Jacqui Griswold, Kay Stone, Tony Garacia, Susan Vogt, AJ Wagner and connected via phone Isabella Moyer

Blessed William Joseph Chaminade received the title of "Missionary Apostolic" from the Vatican because that is what he wanted to be - a missionary. His mission is now ours. It is the mission of rebuilding our Church. As we gathered at the end of May to discuss MLNNA and where we will be going from here, mission was, as it always has been, in the forefront of the Leadership Team's effort.

I was joined by our Executive Secretary, Susan Vogt;
our Area Development Coordinator, Kay Stone;
our Editor and Communications Director, Jacqui Griswold;
our Treasurer, Tony Garascia; our representative to the International Organization of Marianist Lay Communities, Isabella Moyer;
and our new Financial Development Co-Directors, Paula and Mike Zeimski.   Susan and Jim Vogt hosted us for the entire weekend providing meeting and sleeping space. Transportation cost was next to nothing as everyone found ways to attend for minimal or no cost to MLNNA.

Why would these fine folks sacrifice time and treasure for MLNNA?
In a word, mission.

So the question for the weekend was, "Where will mission take us for the next three years?" The answers were prioritized as follows:

  1. In our mission we will build a new web site, easy to use, attractive, and eventually, interactive.
  2. In our mission we will create new network tools to help you find each other and communicate more effectively.
  3. In our mission we will be more welcoming to new communities, new members and new children who come into our family.
  4. In our mission we will invite and encourage the leadership of young adults.
  5. In our mission we will plan our finances with accountability and transparency.
  6. In our mission we will communicate better.
  7. In our mission we will be sensitive to God's creation.
  8. In our mission we will seek the assistance of outside financial resources.
  9. In our mission we will develop new and creative means for raising funds.
  10. In our mission we will create new and creative media resources.
  11. In our mission we will be more sensitive to our varied cultures.
  12. In our mission we will work with the Marianist Family on specific projects.
  13. In our mission we will be sensitive to the need for zeal, instruction and temporalities.
  14. In our mission we will become better leaders.
  15. In our mission we will encourage volunteerism.
Set-up NING

We also discussed our joint mission with the Marianist Family. We discussed how we could assist the Marianist Environmental Education Center, the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative, the Lay formation Initiative and the Young Adult Initiative. We discussed the invitation of the Society of Mary and the Daughters of Mary for a joint assembly in  2011 or 2013 and their generous invitation for Lay Marianists to join them in their annual retreats in 2009. (Details will follow in the coming months.)

In short, we discussed mission.

Blessed William Joseph Chaminade wrote of the "director who never dies."  With his death the mission did not end and it must not end now.

peace and love,
