The Visitation
May is the month of many Marian events. May 31st is the Visitation.
"What the Ark of the Covenant could only signify (and only in a local way), Mary makes a reality, and in a personal way; She is an effective sign of God's presence with his people. Mary's life is not the answer! Jesus is the answer! But Mary's life is an effective sign that Jesus is the answer. She helps us to understand the following prayer to Jesus: - If I am confused, he is a light to see by.
- If I am lost, he is a path to follow.
- If I am weak, he is an arm to lean on.
- If I am hungry, he is bread for the heart.

President's Message
It's
graduation season. A time when we try to discard the word "graduation" in favor
of the word "commencement" to remind ourselves that this is not an end but a
beginning. Despite such terminology, tears will flow from the faces of those
who cannot bear departing their friends, teachers and community.
As
Marianists we understand this sadness. Our incarnational vision tells us that
Christ is in others. After finding Christ in friends, teachers, professors and
community who would want to leave? Departure creates within us a moment of
angst when we forget that Christ also lies ahead in new friends, colleagues,
and communities to be built.
As
Marianists, we commence. We move forward to seek Christ anew in places and
people where Christ has always been. Then we form community for support,
understanding and mission and in doing so we create within ourselves a soul
that magnifies the Lord.
Congratulations
Grads Commencers!! AJ Wagner

Marianist Lay Formation Initative i
The third cohort of the Marianist
Lay Formation Initiative met in Dayton,
Ohio the weekend of April 25-27th. Twelve people attended from Hawaii,
NY, NJ, PA, IN and MD.
Some were referrals from 'partners' around the country,
some were through contacts with the young adult community via email information
and invites. Highlights of the weekend included presentations from Brother Tom
Giardino and Patti Gehred, as well as shared conversation and prayer services
that were prepared by the participants. We were able to have dinner and visit
with a lay community that was begun as a result of the first cohort, and tour
the grounds of Mt.
St. John's.
Bro Tom inspired the group with the question, 'What
are you doing on Monday?', which has been the topic of discussion on a goggle
group that one of the members set up for us. We are currently using that arena
for discussion on case studies, and will be taking the "community" course
through the VLC beginning May 18th. What an energetic and
enthusiastic group!

Attending were: (Back row) Rudy Reyes,Jr; Chiree Souza; Carol Weiss; Linda
Flores-Tober; Madge Hempsey; Tina Bauman; Jeannie Pinpin; Chris Roe; Joanie
Roe; (center) Serina Souza; (front row) Anna Tusim; Pati Krasensky (Director of the
MLFI) and Beth Woods.

"How Do Marianists Do Social Justice?"
Many Marianists are drawn
to social justice. But what is a Marianist perspective on social justice? And
what are some characteristics one can use to define it? A new Things
Marianist, "How Do Marianists Do Social Justice?"--written by Jim
Vogt the director of the Marianist Social Justice Collaborative--examines this
topic. Jim uses the work of the Adèle Social Justice Project in crafting the
seven characteristics:
Saying
Yes
Building
Community
Living
Simply
Hospitality
Joining
Voices with the Voiceless
Interdependence
Passion
for the Mission
Things
Marianist "How Do Marianists Do
Social Justice?" is ideal as a short introduction to Marianist social
justice, as a discussion resource for Marianist communities or groups, and as a
background piece for people new to the Marianist Family and its ministries.
