It's time for a HULYANKE

Sat Nov 6 at 7:30 p

at the home of AR members Rhoda & Israel Kachuck, 5166 Avenida Hacienda, Tarzana, phone 818.654.9960.

Bring a nigndl (tune), a fraynd (friend), a mayse (story), a nosh (nosh) or any songs in Yiddish you'd like to share--songs from the Yiddish labor poets, lullabies, holiday songs, love songs. For some it evokes the memories of kindershule or camp. For others it's a chance to learn old and more recent Yiddish songs and get familiar with the language.

For more information and to RSVP (appreciated) contact Lenny Potash at 323.665.2908 or LennyPotash@gmail.com. Please feel free to bring a nosh or drink to share.

Social Action Notes

The Vote on Nov 2
We thank and congratulate all our members and friends who were so active in the midterm elections of 2010. The progressive camp across the country lost some ground and it will take some time for the labor movement and its allies among youth and students, seniors, women, the LGBT community, minorities, etc., to assess and strategize for the future. As always, it takes dedicated, steady organizing to achieve anything worthwhile. In California, of course, we can be proud to have turned back the influence of Big Money in many races. Onward!

Honor the boycott of Hyatt Hotels!
The California Federation of Labor and the Jewish Labor Committee are keeping up the boycott of Hyatt Hotels pending the negotiation of a contract. Please respect the boycott!

Blood Drive in San Gabriel Valley
Temple Beth David of the San Gabriel Valley is proud to announce a blood drive with Cedars-Sinai on Sun Dec 5, from 9:30 am - 2:30 pm in the social hall. The site is located at 9677 Longden Ave. in Temple City, CA 91780 and the phone number is 626.287.9994. Our Life Member Steve Klein reminds us that the date is the 5th day of Khaneke, when it is typical to exchange gifts. Says Steve, "I know our members will be delighted to give the gift of life, especially during this season."

Save the Date
Our SoCal District Director Eric Gordon, who came to us in November 1995, is retiring after 15 years, effective the last day of 2010. We'll have a party to mark this momentous passage on Sunday afternoon, Jan 2. Stay tuned for more details.
