Help prevent the spread of influenza in your chapter
K-State and Greek Affairs is prepared to help your chapter respond to sick members, but more importantly, we want to help you be aware of how your chapter can stay healthy. Here's what you should know:
H1N1 flu is spread through respiratory droplets that are coughed or sneezed into the air. It may also be spread by virus that remains on hands after coughing or sneezing that gets spread to others through common use items such as phones, doorknobs, desks and keyboards.
If you or one of your chapter sisters are sick, have them stay home to avoid spreading illness. Encourage them not to go to class or chapter functions and certianly do not require their attendance.
All members should use simple caution during the flu season: cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of used tissues. Clean hands after using tissues with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap and warm water. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Stay healthy by eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water and getting adequate rest and exercise.
Should members in your chapter become ill, please contact the Greek Affairs office immediately.
On Thursday, all Greek students received the and annual email encouraging safety. Included this semester was special information about influenza and other timely cautions. Read the newsletter now. |

Alumni Association and President's Office seeks K-State Student Ambassador nominations
As the fall semester hits full stride, the time to plan and promote Homecoming Week 2009 has come. One of the most important events taking place during Homecoming Week at K-State is the election of the two K-State student ambassadors (1 male and 1 female), who represent the university at a variety of events organized by the Alumni Association and the President's Office. We are asking for your help in reaching out to qualified students who possess tremendous school spirit and pride to apply for the student ambassador position. Nominations can be submitted online. In order to make the process easier, you can make nominations online at www.K-State.com/StudentAmbassadors. From there, you can find a description of the Student Ambassador position, a sample application and a nomination form. You can also either print off a nomination form from that Web site or use the attached form and campus mail it back to the Alumni Center. We ask that you please provide us with the necessary contact information of students that you believe would be outstanding candidates and interested in this position. Feel free to forward this address on to those in your department who would have possible nominations to make. The nomination deadline is Thursday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. Students that are nominated by members of faculty and staff will be notified by mail with a 2009 student ambassador application and will also have the option to complete the application via the Alumni Association Web site. Student and faculty/staff panels select student ambassador finalists through an interview process. The finalists are then up for election by the student body during Homecoming Week. Candidates will be judged by their enthusiasm for K-State, leadership skills and university involvement. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. Thank you for helping promote this fun and honored position that will represent Kansas State University in the coming year. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Darchelle Martin, the student ambassador adviser, at 532-5057 or via email at dmartin@k-state.com. Visit the Greek Affairs website for more on K-State Homecoming and Greek involvement. |
