2009 Formal Membership Recruitment a huge success!
Here are the quick facts you should know...
- K-State, again this year, broke a record for enrollment in Panhellenic FMR - a total of 617 participants were registered to attend.
- Our retention throughout the week continues to be successful as nearly 87% of the potential new members were retained throughout the complete process.
- All chapters are at total! This is a first in over 15 years for K-State!
- We have the most sorority women returning to campus we have ever had at K-State, and of course then at the conclusion of FMR, the total Panhellenic community membership (1720 members) is the largest ever at K-State.
Congratulations to all new members, we're glad you found your K-State home. Congratulations older members on a job very will done!
Be sure to thank your Membership/Recruitment leaders for all of their hard work! |
Greek Affairs Assistant Director position to open
The following message comes from Shawn Eagleburger, Assistant Director of Greek Affairs and Primary Sorority Advisor.
By now, all of you should be aware I have decided to make a transition in my professional career, and will be leaving K-State. The decision to leave was difficult, and over the past few days the decision has become be real as I have began transitioning and sitting in on meetings regarding finding a replacement. It will certainly be difficult to leave K-State - I have loved being a part of your team.
I accepted a position to serve as Pi Beta Phi's Director of Programming. For Pi Beta Phi, this position entails the development of the fraternity's educational, leadership and membership enrichment curriculum, the fostering of the fraternity's partnerships including those non-profit and charitable efforts of the international organization, and the oversight of the fraternity's special events. I will officially be joining the Pi Beta Phi team on September 21; my last day in the Greek Affairs office will be September 16. It is important for you to know that Dr. Bosco has approved an exception to the university-wide hiring freeze as he considers the Assistant Director/Primary Sorority Advisor position an essential position. Scott Jones, Director of Greek Affairs, and Meghan Butler, Panhellenic President, have committed to filling the vacant position as quickly as possible. Plans are underway to ensure a new Assistant Director is named prior to the end of the Fall semester.
A position announcement will be developed and posted in the coming days. Scott and Meghan will make this posting available for you to share with interested and qualified individuals, and I hope you will. I am doing my best to stretch out the next few days as greatly as I can. I hope you'll stop by the Greek Affairs office as you are able, as I'd love to say goodbye personally.
Thank you, Shawn. |
Help prevent the spread of influenza in your chapter
K-State and Greek Affairs is prepared to help your chapter respond to sick members, but more importantly, we want to help you be aware of how your chapter can stay healthy. Here's what you should know:
H1N1 flu is spread through respiratory droplets that are coughed or sneezed into the air. It may also be spread by virus that remains on hands after coughing or sneezing that gets spread to others through common use items such as phones, doorknobs, desks and keyboards.
If you or one of your chapter sisters are sick, have them stay home to avoid spreading illness. Encourage them not to go to class or chapter functions and certianly do not require their attendance.
All members should use simple caution during the flu season: cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue and properly dispose of used tissues. Clean hands after using tissues with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer or soap and warm water. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Stay healthy by eating a balanced diet, drinking plenty of water and getting adequate rest and exercise.
Should members in your chapter become ill, please contact the Greek Affairs office immediately.
On Thursday, all Greek students received the and annual email encouraging safety. Included this semester was special information about influenza and other timely cautions. Read the newsletter now. |

Gamma Rho Lambda to host national conference, and needs your help!
The following message comes from Stephanie Brandt, a member of Gamma Rho Lambda.
Gamma Rho Lambda will be hosting a national conference, Out and Greek, right here at K-State on November 19-22, 2009. The goal of this conference is to help to educate leaders on our campus and many others about LGBTQ issues and concerns.
Out and Greek is a leadership conference that teaches how to create a safer and more inclusive LGBTQ experience on campus. This conference will be attended by many different organizations from Kansas and the neighboring states who are interested in helping the LGBTQ community have a place on their campus. Most of the attendees will be presidents of other sororities, fraternities, and student groups.
Approximately 100 people expected to be in attendance, many of them are not from the immediate area. The women of Gamma Rho Lambda, are looking for accommodations for some of the guests, and hoping your chapter may be interested in serving as over-night hosts. We realize that we would not be able to find a place for all hundred of our guests so we thought that if possible, anyone who was interested in staying on campus could fill out an application. To express you interest, please contact Stephanie by email or at (785) 477-9669.

Alumni Association and President's Office seeks K-State Student Ambassador nominations
As the fall semester hits full stride, the time to plan and promote Homecoming Week 2009 has come. One of the most important events taking place during Homecoming Week at K-State is the election of the two K-State student ambassadors (1 male and 1 female), who represent the university at a variety of events organized by the Alumni Association and the President's Office. We are asking for your help in reaching out to qualified students who possess tremendous school spirit and pride to apply for the student ambassador position. Nominations can be submitted online. In order to make the process easier, you can make nominations online at www.K-State.com/StudentAmbassadors. From there, you can find a description of the Student Ambassador position, a sample application and a nomination form. You can also either print off a nomination form from that Web site or use the attached form and campus mail it back to the Alumni Center. We ask that you please provide us with the necessary contact information of students that you believe would be outstanding candidates and interested in this position. Feel free to forward this address on to those in your department who would have possible nominations to make. The nomination deadline is Thursday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. Students that are nominated by members of faculty and staff will be notified by mail with a 2009 student ambassador application and will also have the option to complete the application via the Alumni Association Web site. Student and faculty/staff panels select student ambassador finalists through an interview process. The finalists are then up for election by the student body during Homecoming Week. Candidates will be judged by their enthusiasm for K-State, leadership skills and university involvement. Deadline for applications is Wednesday, Sept. 23 at 5 p.m. Thank you for helping promote this fun and honored position that will represent Kansas State University in the coming year. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Darchelle Martin, the student ambassador adviser, at 532-5057 or via email at dmartin@k-state.com.
