Love is a hot meal when the world is upside-down
When people heard that Trenton United Methodist Church was opening its doors as a tornado relief center, they unloaded their freezers -- the electricity was off -- and sent the goods over to the church kitchen.
Beth McCarver found herself staring at piles of defrosting chicken, fish, and T-bone steaks.She and her co-workers pushed up their sleeves and went to work. .
For 11 days, they cooked from 4:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. One meal transitioned into the next, and the tables were never empty.
"You could tell which ones had lost everything," she said. "They had a blank stare and were so tired. One woman came in, covered in mud. The windows were blown out of her car. She said she couldn't find her husband."

Dearings witness first independence day
The Rev. Fred Dearing retired at Annual Conference. A week later, he and his wife Libby were boarding a plane for their next assignment: South Sudan.
