Church leaders meet June 12-15 in Lake Junaluska
The Holston Annual Conference raised $100,192 to build an orphanage for 50 children in South Sudan and establish two scholarships at Africa University.
Members of 899 churches also gave an offering of $55,403 to support children's ministries and $8,725 to help tornado victims.
A $10.6 million budget was approved after members questioned a 2 percent raise for district superintendents and voted to override a recommendation to cut per diem and travel expenses for at-large members. Later, superintendents waived their raises to help cover the $41,000 in added costs for at-large members.
