Bishop Swanson: 'Call to Action' will hold churches, pastors, bishops accountable

"What are you going to do to win people to Christ?"

The Holston Annual Conference will be held June 12-15 at Lake Junaluska Assembly in western North Carolina. Other than electing delegates to General and Jurisdictional Conferences, Bishop James Swanson and staff have planned for the 2,000 members in attendance to learn more about the "Call to Action."

Swanson talked to The Call last week about his thoughts and obligations regarding the denomination's new plan to "re-order the life of the church."

"Jesus calls us to carry the cross, but we don't need to be constantly looking for more crosses to bear."

Study reveals: United Methodists
need to step out of homogeneity

Recent research by the Lewis Center for Church Leadership shows that virtually all conferences reach people of color less well than they reach whites.

Holston is 8th in the denomination for top conferences in reaching people of color within their boundaries -- at 1.5 percent.
