FROM PLAIN TO MOUNTAIN
New missionary arrives from Nebraska
to tackle poverty in Big Stone Gap District |
|
The Rev. Koni Purscell's accent (or lack thereof) doesn't sound anything like the Virginia pastor who's carrying in 50-pound bags of seed potatoes and dumping them at her feet.
But a few days after her April 1 arrival, she already seems to fit in the Big Stone Gap District and the cramped old house that serves as an office.
Purscell is Holston's newest Church and Community Worker, whose job is to address the staggering poverty found in the Big Stone Gap District.
"I find myself treading lightly," says the pastor from Nebraska. "I love the mountains, but I don't understand the coal-mining culture."
Purscell follows Nancy Hobbs, whose legacy is described by District Superintendent Archer Coppedge. Following Purscell in Nebraska is a familiar face from Holston: Randy Hildebrant of Jubilee Project.

I was struck by the fact that in both places, God was present if we could but see God's hands." Read the blog ... |
