OSHA releases Green Jobs Hazards Analysis Guidance

"Green jobs" are jobs - as defined by the Bureau of Labor Statistic's Green Jobs Initiative (http://www.bls.gov/green/) - that help to improve the environment. Workers in the green industries may face hazards that are commonly known in general industry workplaces -- such as falls, confined spaces, electrical, fire, and other similar hazards - but are new to workers moving into fast- growing green industries. Additionally, workers may be exposed to new hazards that have not previously been identified. For example, workers in the solar energy industry may be exposed to cadmium telluride, a known carcinogen, if adequate controls are not implemented. OSHA's guidance provides employers with information about some of the hazards in the industry and the OSHA standards that may apply.
