Independence House has a vision to one day eliminate domestic and sexual violence in our community. One way we are working to achieve this vision is through our community education. Independence House staff lead professional trainings with police officers, human service workers and other professionals in the community; furthermore, educational workshops on a variety of topics are offered to educational institutions Cape-wide from third graders to college students. Contact Independence House if you would like to schedule a workshop or training session.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is an online resource for health information. Dating Matters: Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention is a 60-minute interactive free training webinar developed by the CDC in partnership with Liz Clairborne Inc. The webinar is designed to train and help educators, youth-serving organizations and others working with teens to understand the risk factors and warning signs associated with teen dating violence. | Cape Cod Synagogue Addresses Anti-Bullying with Workshop | |
Sunday, October 31 was not your average morning at the Cape Cod Synagogue religious school. Unlike most Sunday mornings where the students join together as peers to study Judaism, it was Halloween too, and while they were eager to share plans with their friends about their costumes for that night, they were also overwhelmingly eager to share their thoughts on bullying. read more. |
| MARC Offers Free Curriculum About Bullying | | The Massachusetts Aggression Reduction Center (MARC), founded by Dr. Elizabeth Englander is housed at Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. Their goal is to bring low- or no-cost services to K-12 education, law enforcement, and other professional caregivers for children in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Marc offers a free K-5 grade curriculum on bullying and cyberbulling prevention. Click for more details. |

Independence House, in conjunction with South Coastal Legal Services is presenting a workshop on 258E's (Harassment Prevention Orders). This is an open and free event. Anyone who is interested may attend. The workshop will be held on November 16th at Community Action Committee of Cape Cod & Islands, Inc. (CACCI), 115 Enterprise Road, Hyannis. Centerville's Edward Jones Branch Office Supports Independence House of Hyannis |
Local residents and businesses may help those less fortunate in the community by bringing in items to the Edward Jones branch office, 1676 Falmouth Road, Centerville, MA 02632 (located in the Centerville Shopping Center, Route 28) during regular business hours from now to the end of December. Items needed for the food drive include: canned items and nonperishable items, such as pasta and rice, and holiday items. Also needed are non-food items such as diapers and wipes, toiletries and cosmetics, feminine products, and new winter items such as gloves, mittens and hats. Proceeds from the drive will benefit Independence House, serving the needs of survivors of domestic volence & their children since 1979.
