Leverage Your Business, Love Your Life!

Greetings!
Happy New Year to You!
I love this time of year, as I get to have many conversations and share my thoughts on what it really takes to live a life you love. On December 30th, I received a call from the Province Newspaper asking me to share my thoughts on New Year's Resolutions for an article they were writing. I was thrilled for the opportunity and the first thing I said was, "I don't agree with New Year's Resolutions but I will share with you what I have come to know as the key to living a high-quality life" - the editor was intrigued.
See below for some tips and resources for living a better life and check out my article(s) in last weeks Sunday Province (see right hand column).
Warmly,
Teresia LaRocque, MCC

Ditch your New Year's Resolutions and Resolve to Live a Better Life!
|
The New Year is a powerful time to reflect on your experiences over the past year and, more importantly, pave the way to an even better future. At the start of each year, many of us make resolutions. Yet, for many, those resolutions tend to fizzle by February- yes February. Not because of lack of desire or effort but because bottom line, change can be challenging. The end result, we either put off making New Year's resolutions because of past efforts that have failed or resort to sheer will power and self motivation - and say to ourselves 'this year will different'. Can you relate?
My advice, let go of the struggle and ditch the notion of New Year's resolutions and resolve to live a better life.
Focus on what I call the "backdoor approach to living a better life". For the month of January decide to create a strong personal foundation to have 2011 be your best year yet.
Here are a few key steps to get you on your way.
- Give yourself the gift of taking an afternoon, maybe even a day and reflect on your experiences of 2010. What did you accomplish? What did you learn? What are you most proud of? 2010 can be a great launching pad for having more of what you want in 2011. See December's article for a process of reflection.
- Uncover your belief system. If you are not creating what you want in your life, there is a good chance that your beliefs are not supporting your desires. Dig deep - what are your core beliefs? Really.
- Make a list of what you are tolerating in your life. Tolerations are things that cause you frustration, hold you back. Tolerations can be small or big; a messy desk, a job that does not reflect your natural gifts, a negative friend. Make your list and resolve to be toleration free by the end of the year. Sometimes just making the list, the tolerations magically disappear.
- Take time to discover your true values. What is MOST important to you, make decisions, set goals based on your values. When goals are aligned with one's core values, achieving goals feels satisfying, even in difficult times, your quality of life improves and you are naturally pulled towards the results you want in your life. Check out my self coaching gude on setting value based goals.
- Take one day at a time. Create a morning ritual to keep you present and committed to the change you want to make. Start your day with meditation, journaling, some kind of ritual to reflect on your life goals.
- Resolve not to do life alone. Research shows that humans tend to do difficult things much better in teams and groups than on their own. Build in accountability and support in your life. Hire a coach, get a mentor, have a success buddy.
Living a better life is a process; it is a commitment that we need to act on daily. By focusing on building a strong personal foundation we will begin to attract what we most desire in our life.
Cheers to a great 2011! Teresia |
