Dear Readers,
We are grateful for articles, ideas, and experiences submitted to Vision Now!.  Please accept them as a "sharing". None are meant to set forth rules, formulas or authority. They are the result of each author's prayerful consideration of the subject.
Thank you,
The Editors
Greetings!

In hymn 258 of The Christian Science Hymnal, James Russell Lowell wrote:  "New occasions teach new duties ..." and we couldn't agree more!

Recently, a message from The Mother Church Nursing Activities Department was sent to all Journal-listed Christian Science nurses announcing a new online space - a sort of "virtual parlor" - developed exclusively for Christian Science nurses. Videos about Christian Science nursing, updates on legislative issues from around the world, and private online discussion areas are the beginnings of what is available on this site. The possibilities are vast! For more information about this website, please contact csnursing@csps.com

The Board of CSNN is happy to announce this development and invites all of our subscribers to sign up. (You don't have to be Journal-listed to participate.) In addition, after prayerful consideration, we decided to suspend publication of our e-newsletter, Vision Now! to give everyone the time and opportunity to support this new endeavor. We would love to see your comments posted on The Mother Church's new Christian Science nurse website and encourage you to contribute!

This is not the demise of CSNN, however. We are in the beginning stages of planning another fun and inspiring conference for you. Our 2011 International Christian Science Nursing Conference will 2011 conf logoonce again be held at CedarS Camps in Lebanon, Missouri on September 7-11, 2011. The theme for this year's conference is: "Walking Over the Wave". Information and application forms will be available on our website soon and we will keep you updated with Constant Contact emails. Our website will remain active, giving you the opportunity to view archived issues of Vision Now!, contact information, and other important items.

So, please enjoy this "final-for-now" issue of Vision Now! and accept our big "thank you" to all who have written articles, assisted with production and supported Vision Now! in the past. We look forward to seeing you at the 2011 Conference and in "the parlor."

"Beloved Christian Scientists: --Take courage. God is leading you onward and upward. Relinquishing a material form of communion advances it spiritually." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany by Mary Baker Eddy 140:19.

Enjoy!

Hello,

This is a quick feedback concerning the last Vision Now! edition:

First of all, thanks a lot for keeping me informed of what is going on in the US  (I live in Europe)

Then I was sooo pleased to read Lisa Pena's article concerning her flexible way of thinking while nursing at The Village. I can very well understand this behavior as I started my Christian Science nursing activity alone in France with home-nursing (there is no facility). I was the only Christian Science nurse in this country, and I really "needed" to be flexible in every occasion. No rules, no timetable, no fixed schedules, no routine, no payslip - just listening to God's directions by being inspired at each step forward.

A few years ago God sent me to Le Verger in Switzerland where I can continue to nurse in this way.  Prayer and inspiration is much more important than time-tables and daily routine tasks.

If these statements make you smile like this

I can tell you, that I obtained my listing even if my "parcours" was not a regular one, and that Le Verger got a 3-year accreditation from the Commission this year and its course is given these days even in Brazil!

Vive le pure Christian Science nursing !

much love to you all,

Andrea Landart, Paris, France

Christian Science Nursing in Brazil

Christian Science nurses' training is blossoming around the world. One of the most recent countries to benefit from this opportunity is Brazil. This program developed from a connection between two Christian Science nursing organizations, Associacao Arco Iris in Brazil and Le Verger in Rolle, Switzerland, through Wendy Blumer Abdollahi, a Christian Science nurse listed in The Christian Science Journal in Zurich, Switzerland.

Wendy grew up in Brazil. In 1981 she went to the USA for Christian Science nurses' training. She did her practical training at The Leaves in Dallas, Texas where she also worked until 1991. She then moved to Zurich, Switzerland where she has been active as the Visiting Christian Science Nurse for the last 20 years, covering the German and Italian parts of Switzerland. In addition to her visiting nursing, she works two days a week at Le Verger, a Christian Science nursing facility in French-speaking Switzerland.

Since Wendy speaks Portuguese (the language spoken in Brazil), and Le Verger has an established training program, the Association Arco Iris reached out to them for help in bringing Christian Science nursing to Brazil.

Recently CSNN Board member Pat Cameron, spoke to Wendy about this project:

Pat: Wendy, could you explain what Associação Arco Iris is and how it came to be?

Wendy: Arco Iris is a Christian Science non-profit organization founded 35 years ago when a house, land and funds were donated for a Christian Science nursing facility in Brazil. But it never came to be, since, as we all know, Read more ...

patrice edwardsOur By-law as Declaration
by Patrice D. Edwards

In the Manual of The Mother Church, Mary Baker Eddy gives a By-law for the Christian Science Nurse in Article VIII, Section 31, which states: "A member of The Mother Church who represents himself or herself as a Christian Science nurse shall be one who has a demonstrable knowledge of Christian Science practice, who thoroughly understands the practical wisdom necessary in a sick room, and who can take proper care of the sick." The second paragraph of the by-law reads, "The cards of such persons may be inserted in The Christian Science Journal under rules established by the publishers."

Recently, the editorial staff of Vision Now! asked several Christian Science nurses, "What unique place does the Manual By-law for the Christian Science nurse have in your Christian Science nursing practice? The following is Patrice Edwards' reply:

The Manual By-law is a declaration of what is! It describes the existent fact of Mind and Mind's manifestation; the unique relationship of God and Man. Think about it, who has demonstrable knowledge, who has a thorough understanding, and who takes proper care? Nothing Read more ...

Tender Care at Hom
by Jane Schmit

Recently CSNN Board member Bonnie Mitchinson asked Jane Schmit to share with the readers of Vision Now! the story of how Tender Care at Home began as a new and unique model in Christian Science nursing. The following is Jane's reply:

RECOGNIZING THE NEED

The idea for Tender Care at Home, in the St. Louis, Missouri area of the United States, began in 2006 with several local Christian Scientists who had experienced needs for such care. They started by holding informal meetings to hear what others might know on the subject. At every meeting the idea to establish a small home was met with enthusiasm. Later an ad hoc committee was formed. Their first activity was to determine the extent of the need from St. Louis to Kansas City. A questionnaire was sent to all Christian Science practitioners in that area. The engine behind the idea, Georgia Dearborn, telephoned each of these to introduce this form and ask if they would fill it out. One hundred percent of the questionnaires were returned with the message that there indeed was a need. More meetings were held with larger groups including the Missouri Committee on Publication, and representatives of Glenridge, The Principle Foundation, and Peace Haven. It was recognized that this idea needed regular Read more ...

Trusting God in My Christian Science Nursing Practice

by Andrea Landart

What is unique about my private duty practice? Everything I would say. As I began to work in France as the one and only Christian Science nurse, there was nothing except,"Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding" that was guiding me. And the Lord was truly directing my path all the way until I became listed in The Christian Science Journal.

Private duty practice is for me nothing less than caring for a beloved family member. You forget yourself and do whatever you can with unselfish love, in true brotherliness, charitableness and forgiveness. As you are the only Christian Science nurse on the shift, you cannot count on somebody else to help you if you think you cannot deal with the case. You need to trust Read more ...
