Ollie's Offerings

It's the time of year when churches have more visitors.  As you walk the hallways, enjoy breakfast, attend Sunday School and worship, and make your way back to your cars, I encourage you to be attentive to those in our midst who would benefit from your hospitality.  You may discover parents trying to get their children to Sunday School. There may be someone in the pews sitting next to you who has checked "first time visitor" in the friendship register. You might see an unfamiliar face at breakfast or youth group. You may see someone park in our "Visitor Parking" spots. Please be as welcoming as you can and offer to walk them to wherever it is they need to go (don't just point!)

With three worship services we now have some "growing room" in the sanctuary. God's love and salvation dwell among us in the word made flesh. God's desire is that the lost coin, prodigal and sheep be found and celebrated. God wants the banqueting table to be full and you play a vital role in sharing the good news with that gracious invitation.

Invite, welcome, share and celebrate our life of faith in this blessed season. Recall what it was like when you were a "first time visitor" and seek to make that experience a gracious and positive one for others now seeking to make a connection with Christ and his church.

APC Christmas CD

See Dave Ramsey Live!

We have about 50 people taking the 13-week Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University and learning how to change their lives through good financial management strategies.  If you wanted to take the class but were unable, you have an opportunity to attend a 5-hour seminar hosted by Dave Ramsey himself at Gwinnett Arena on Saturday, January 21.

This seminar will be a condensed version of the 13-week course and past attendees have said that it's life changing.  APC members and friends can attend the class for a discounted rate of $25 (and no extra fees) using the coupon code "APC" when ordering online.  Tickets are also available by contacting Ted Lynam, tedlynam3895@comcast.net.  This event will sell out, and it will be two years before Dave is back in Atlanta, so get your seats early, and tell your friends about it, they can use the discount code, too!

Angel Tree

Angel Tree Gifts must be delivered to APC no later than Sunday December 4 at NOON! We also need help sorting gifts and doing last minute shopping on Thursday, December 8.
Contact Michelle Olsen, 770/777-0549 or Eva Wardrup, 770/354-1226 if you would like to help. Thanks to everyone for sharing what you have with those in need.
Children's Pageant

Children's Christmas Pageant - December 18, 2011 - 9:45 AM

The Children's Christmas Pageant is one of the longest-running and most unique traditions at APC.  It is a little chaotic, a little messy.  It never goes exactly as planned.  It is exactly as it should be. YOU are invited to participate!

Our Christmas Pageant is open to all.  EVERY child is invited to participate.  There will be no try-outs, no rehearsals.  This is not as much a performance as an experience.

Our pageant, this year, will be at 9:45 AM on December 18.  Children of ALL AGES are invited to dress up as a participant in the Nativity story.  We need Marys, Josephs, Shepherds, Animals, Wise Ones, and Angels.

  • Costume creation, simple or elaborate, is up to each child's parents.  (Marys - don't forget a baby doll!)  Don't have a costume?  Come anyway!  We'll have extra.
  • Please arrive by 9:30 on the morning of December 18 and gather with the other participants in designated rooms.  (Angels will gather in the Choir Room.  All others will gather in classrooms set-up in Fellowship Hall on the sanctuary side.)

We will need youth to "corral" each group and to help them with their entrances and exits. To volunteer, please contact Lisa McKemey 678-462-5597; lmckemey@comcast.net.

If you've attended the Children's Christmas Pageant before, you know how special it is.  If you haven't, make this the year.  Consider yourself personally invited to be a part of this heartwarming APC family tradition.

Thanksgiving Service Update

The Community Thanksgiving Service recently held at St. James Methodist Church was enjoyed by 420 people who attended.  The service was inspiring and the hospitality of St. James was enjoyed in worship and in the reception that followed.  The total offering raised for North Fulton Community Charities was $3,431.73! We give thanks for our ecumenical partners in ministry and look forward to next year's service which will be held on the Tuesday of Thanksgiving week at a site to be determined.

Eldercare Support
APC Eldercare shares two important events:
APC Open Arms Eldercare is excited to publish our blog, APC Open Arms Reaching Out.  Use our blog to find out important information about our Open Arms Eldercare program, numerous Eldercare articles and many online resources.  We have chosen a blog format so that you may follow along and read articles of interest as well as pose questions you may have.  You may access the blog via the church webpage www.alpharettapres.com and also via the link posted below:

We hope you will bookmark our blogsite and check back often for updated information.

Please also mark your calendar for our next event on December 15.  Rev. Jamie Butcher will lead our service entitled "Service for the Season: Strength for the Journey."  This is a service of worship for caregivers and members of the eldercare community. Join us in prayer and song offering Christian hope during what can be a difficult season.

Career Transition

APC Career Transition Program - This week the unemployment rate in Georgia rose to 10.3%. When those who have given up are no longer job hunting, as well as those who want full-time jobs, but still work part-time, the real total unemployment rate leaps to 16.7%. Elder Bill Harris leads efforts at APC to address the employment concerns of our congregation and needs your help.  We are trying to get a handle on the reality of how many of our members are unemployed and underemployed - whether or not you currently attend the Career Transition Group at APC, if you fit either category please email Bill at w.m.harris@att.net.  In addition, the job market is tight and the impersonal internet has made it difficult to get recognized among the many. If you work for or own a company, we would appreciate any information on positions to come available or contact names that would ensure a more effective outreach. We need our employed professionals to reach out and make information available that will give a fighting chance to members of our congregation who are struggling to get a sense of the real jobs versus automatic postings, and to get noticed!  Please email Bill with any help you can give as we renew our commitment to serve our members in this difficult and ongoing recession.
