APC Youth Ministry News - November 28, 2011

Issue: 12
November 2011
Greetings!

Thanksgiving weekend marked the beginning of the holiday frenzy; and yesterday in worship we took a moment to reflect on the beginning of Advent as we watched the first candle being lit on the Advent wreath.

It is my hope that you and your family will have a wonderful and blessed Advent season; and that you will stay focused on the little babe, born to paupers in a stable, who was sent to be our Savior and King.  Jesus really is the reason for the season.

In Christ,

Kelly Edwards, Director of Youth Ministries

Sunday Night Youth Group

Connecting at Youth Group

We hope that you enjoyed having your middle and high schoolers home for the holiday weekend!  Youth Group will meet this Sunday, December 4, from 5:30-7:30 at APC.

On Sunday, December 11, we invite all youth to join us for the annual Christmas party at the Burton's home.  Mark your calendars now and come for an evening of fun and fellowship.  More details will follow in next week's newsletter.

Food for Thought Follow Up

On Sunday, November 20, our middle and high schoolers were divided into "families" and given a life scenario, then asked to shop for groceries for a week to feed their family.  Each youth contributed $5 to their family's shopping budget, so a "family" of six youth had $30 to buy their groceries for the week.  Eating tuna five times in a week is not a typical diet for our youth; and purchasing nutritional food with so little money very difficult. The youth found the exercise to be challenging; and they had their eyes opened to the plight of the working poor.  All of the groceries we purchased were donated to the food pantry at The Place, a local charity that serves the needy in Forsyth County.

CAMP HOPE

Traditionally at APC, youth mission trips are funded in thirds.  One third of the cost is paid by APC, one third of the cost is paid by the participant and one third of the cost is raised through fundraising efforts.   Youth who wish to attend a mission trip must assist with our Youth Fundraiser on Saturday, March 10 to qualify for the 1/3 fundraising discount on their trip.

Mission Giving Opportunity:

kidz2leaders, inc. is a Marietta-based ministry that works with prisoners' children in the metro-Atlanta area.

Children are introduced to the ministry by attending a one-week summer camp, Camp Hope and then participate in year-round programming.

This year, kidz2leaders is looking for individuals and families to sponsor a Camp Hope family's Christmas dinner by donating $50.  Contributions will provide our Camp Hope families with a $50 Kroger gift certificate that will be given to them at the annual hope4christmas party.

Donations can be made to kidz2leaders, inc. and mailed to 4385 Lower Roswell Road, Marietta, GA 30068 or online.
