FUBU Founder Talks About Building Your Brand
| |
Your brand is your business. Establishing a trusted reputation
amongst consumers can mean the difference between success and failure as
an entrepreneur. But how can you gauge whether the competition has the
upper hand? "Entrepreneurs need to constantly make an effort to improve
branding," says Daymond John, business mogul and founder of the FUBU
clothing line. "The process of re-branding never stops." This is
something John knows all too well as he is reacquainting the American
market with his popular urban clothing line, re-launching as an
"all-American" timeless classic. A guest speaker at the Black
Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference in Atlanta next week,
John will be helping other business owners figure out what it takes to
build and maintain their brand. Take a sneak peak: Read more...

Philly Cop Fakes Shooting, Blames A Black Man
| |
According to the Philadelphia Inquirer:
A Philadelphia police sergeant who said he was shot last month by an
unidentified black man in the city's Overbrook section actually
fabricated the entire story and shot himself, Police Commissioner Charles
Ramsey said this morning. Sgt. Robert Ralston,
a 21-year veteran of the department, admitted to homicide detectives
early this morning that his previously reported story was false.
Ramsey called the incident "a terrible and embarrassing chapter in our
history." Asked why Ralston concocted the tale and injured himself,
Ramsey said he didn't know.
Allison Steele, a writer for the Inquirer, reported on
Tuesday:
Ralston will be suspended for 30 days with the intent to dismiss,
Ramsey said. Ralston, married with five children, will face no criminal
charges in the case, because he was offered immunity in exchange for his
confession. Ralston will also have to pay the cost of the massive manhunt that was
sparked by his tale on April 5, Ramsey said. Read more...

"and it is an absolute entity in my life. It's three-dimensional, it's
tangible, and when I die, I'll say goodbye to it, just as I will to
everyone standing around my bed." In the four years since she's blessed
the people with a set of songs, she's been "working, writing music and
living a very, simple life. Many people think that you're just lounging
between albums, but that time for me was about trying to find a place

Workplace Rants on Social Media are Headache for Companies
(CNN) -- One by one, the office Casanova dated several of his
female co-workers at a small technology firm in California. His dating
escapades turned public -- and problematic -- when he chronicled his
opinions of the women on Facebook. He called one co-worker "a
snore" before the updates spiraled into explicit comments. When
his manager learned about the Facebook updates, chaos ensued. One woman
who was the subject of his offensive comments believed she had been
sexually harassed at work. This scenario can be a manager's
nightmare, and it's happening more frequently with the growing
prevalence of social networking, says Shanti Atkins, president of ELT
Inc., an ethics and compliance training company with 2,000 clients
nationwide.Cleaning up the social media disaster at the technology firm
(she declined to give its name) is just one of the dozens of cases
Atkins has taken in the past six months. Read more...
