This month's edition of SOUL COMEDY CAFE' is a Mother's Day Special Event accompanied by an all female line up. SOUL COMEDY CAFE' always tries to provide you with good quality comedy right here in the capital city. This month's headliner is the always honest and humorous... COCOA BROWN. One-dimensional she is not and you will never see the same set twice.

Malcom X assassin is freed on parole in NYC
The only man to admit shooting Malcolm X was
freed on parole Tuesday, 45 years after he assassinated the civil rights
leader. Thomas
Hagan, the last man still serving time in the 1965 killing, was freed
from a Manhattan prison where he spent two days a week under a
work-release program, state Department of Correctional Services
spokeswoman Linda Foglia said. Hagan, 69, has said he was one of three gunmen who
shot Malcolm X as he began a speech at Harlem's Audubon Ballroom on Feb.
21, 1965. But Hagan has said the two men convicted with him were not
involved. Read more... |
Regina King: More Black Women Should Date Outside Their Race
Of all groups of people,
Black women are the least likely group of women that will date outside
of their race. When you have everyone else who is willing to explore but
a Black woman is like, "I want me a brother," well, if the brothers are
out and they're open to date everybody and the majority of Black women
aren't willing to look twice when a man outside of their race is sending
them messages, then that makes our percentage rate lower and the
chances of finding love, because we're only looking in one specific
place for finding love-with Black men. Read more...

Denzel Washington Donates $1 Million to Steve Harvey During Glitzy Gala
Denzel Washington knows hot to make a statement
 |
At
last night's well-heeled 1st annual Steve Harvey
Foundation Gala, the two-time Academy Award-winning thespian didn't
only show up to collect his award for his philanthropic efforts, he also
brought his checkbook. The recent Tony Award nominee donated $1
million to Harvey's eponymous foundation, which aims to mentor young men
from underprivileged backgrounds. "We don't usually make
announcements about what we do, but we are going to put $1 million
toward your organization," Washington told a stunned audience, shortly
after accepting his award. "What this man and his wife are doing is too
important. ... Anything we can do, I will be there. And anything we can
do financially, we will do." "We love and appreciate the work you
guys are doing. Thank you for honoring me, but we came to honor you,"
Washington said before encouraging the audience - which included the
likes of Common, Sherri Shepherd, Rev. Al Sharpton,
boxing promoter Butch Lewis, Malik Yoba, BET honcho Debra
Lee, Island Def Jam chief Antonio "L.A." Reid and
Nicole Ari Parker- to do what they can. On
receiving Washington's donation, Harvey said, "I am stunned, but at the
same time I'm not, because this gift exemplifies Denzel and [wife] Pauletta.
Giving comes real easy to them and although that's surprising to a lot
of people, it's not surprising to us." Read more...

Karl Singleton #2 on the Ballot

Fellow MLK-LDI Scholars, Steering Committee and
Supporters:
As a Scholar, we went through
sessions on leadership and supporting our communities. I am writing to
inform you that I am currently in a tight race to elevate the quality of
life, leadership and support for our communities from the State and
Nation levels and I need your help.
The Friends for Karl
Singleton Campaign was only 176 votes short of winning the 103rd
Legislative District Seat in the Primary of 2008. Here we are two years
and 1 day later with the opportunity to win this seat for the Common
People appearing closer than ever, but I need your help. As a fellow
candidate I am asking you to support this campaign to address the ills
of education, economic
development and crime which are ravishing the 103rd Legislative
District. As we have learned, there is STRENGTH in numbers.....
If you are able to
volunteer some time on Saturdays from 11:45am -2pm we do literature
drops. We are also campaigning via phone and need your support to make
calls from our database. Donations are always welcomed $1, $2 to $3
dollars or more can go a long way if enough people contribute.
At this point, the
greatest needs of the campaign at this point are volunteers to hand out
literature on Tuesday May 18, 2010 between the hours of 7am and 8pm at
polls in the areas of Harrisburg, Highspire, Steelton and Swatara
(1&3) and for you to participate in the 1-3-1 plan.

exclusive deal with Macy's. Now having a distribution deal with the department store, Combs will
have yet another outlet to showcase his Sean John brand in men's

Sean John has "done more than $1
billion of business at Macy's, and we plan to do a couple billion more."
Starting exclusively at 400 stores, they hope to extend it out to all
stores, according to Chief Merchandising Officer Jeff Gennette. By Spring 2011, Sean John men's sportswear will only be featured in

Basketball Wives Evelyn & Jennifer Discuss Dating A Baller and Staying With A Man Who Cheats

Over the weekend, I had the chance to sit down and chat with Evelyn
Lozado and Jennifer Williams of the hit reality show "Basketball Wives".
What I had planned to be a 15 minute chat turned into an hour long
"girl talk" session about the ups and downs of being in a relationship
with a professional athlete. The girls talked about everything from how
they met their "baller", to infidelities and why they chose to stay in a
relationship with a man who cheats. They also shared their thoughts on
Royce, whether they think Gloria's fiance Matt cheats, Evelyn's nude
photos and whether they are renewed for a second season. |
