The Habitat Family

I'm the new kid on the block and have taken over Billy Dunn's role as Executive Director on an interim basis. My origins are from Sweden, and I started in February this year as Director of Development. I know that I have a lot to learn but look forward to this new and exciting challenge. With a very competent staff, terrific volunteers, and a deeply involved Board of Directors, I'm confident that our affiliate will continue to develop, prosper, and thrive.

Having recently attended the annual Habitat for Humanity Conference in Atlanta with 2,000 other attendees, I got a sense that Habitat is one big family with truly dedicated folks who are passionate about what they do, and with a shared goal of eliminating poverty housing. I also learned that Habitat for Humanity is now closing in on having built 500,000 homes worldwide since the start in 1976. This is a truly amazing number of homes, which has resulted in millions of people getting a decent and affordable home for themselves and their families. I'm humbled and thrilled to be part of this adventure!

We've had some terrific events recently with the Earth Day Celebration in our ReStore, the Women Build Week in early May, and a great turnout for the Volunteer Appreciation Day last Sunday.  A heartfelt thanks to all of the volunteers who have given their time to Habitat during the year!

I suggest you read the excerpt below from one of the volunteers who wrote about her Women Build experience.

"You all welcomed us with open arms and embraced our passion! The excitement was contagious and the Women Build Week was awesome! We have established new and lasting relationships!  Sometimes things really do work out for the best!! You should be very proud of all your hard work and preparation!  It turned out great! And the fund-raisers were fun too! As the girls can attest.....I could go on and on.  Suffice it to say that, peanut butter is good, and, chocolate is good, but when you put them together, they're awesome!!! I'll definitely see you all soon!"

We're gearing up for the Home Dedication of our build at 830 Cherry St. in Norristown. Please join us and Jaechon Moon, the new homeowner, on Saturday, June 25 at 10.30am for the dedication of our 50th home!

Please continue to support us in any way that you can. Without our donors and volunteers, we wouldn't be where we are!
