My Dream

"My dream is to live in a good home."  Those were the words of a five year old girl walking through a Habitat for Humanity home in the final stages of completion.  What is amazing about this little girl growing up in a single parent family was the heartfelt interest in simply wanting a home. Her family was tired of moving. She was tired of the leaks coming from the bathroom and roof into her bedroom. She did not ask for a big home, her own bedroom or a backyard. She simply wanted a home for her family!

Thousands of children in our community experience immense academic, social and emotional setbacks caused by frequent moves and substandard conditions.  Children who are forced to move constantly are also more likely to suffer from learning disorders, aggression, anti-social behavior and increased likelihood of missing or dropping out of school.  In fact, research shows that highly mobile students are 30% less likely to graduate from high school.  It is a detrimental cycle that has broad reaching effects on childhood growth and development.

Her dream is to live in a good home.  We have the same dream for her, and for other children in need.  Our mission is to make it happen and we can't do it alone!

donate now

Habitat for Humanity truly provides families with a hand up, rather than a hand out.  Partner families contribute hundreds of hours of physical labor on Habitat homes currently under construction throughout Montgomery County.  Our families may be sore and tired from this physical investment in their new home, but they say they feel good afterwards since they know that they are making a difference for their family and their children's future.

As Mother's Day and Father's Day approach, we ask you to consider a gift to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County in honor of your parents or ones that stood in the gap for you.  If you make a financial commitment of $100 or more, we will send your mother or father a special acknowledgement of this gift given in her or his name.  Please click here to donate online or you can simply send a check.

Partnering with individuals like you makes our mission of eliminating poverty housing possible by constructing safe, decent, affordable homes one home at a time.

Many thanks,

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County

ReStore Earth Day Celebrations a Success!

Scrap SculptureSales from our Earth Day Celebration totaled $4000, approximately 1/3 of our customers were first-time ReStore visitors, and customers filled 6 large bins with electronics to recycle with Best Buy Tag TeamGigaBiter, our Green Partner! Kids made scrap sculpture art (robots & zombies seemed to be the favorites), raffle winners went home happy, and we had great volunteers, including groups from Cabrini College and a local Best Buy store. The day's success showed the commitment of our customers, donors and the ReStore in recycling, being green and helping the environment, and the efforts did not go unrecognized - our Earth Day celebrations received front page coverage and a "thumbs-up" mention from the Times Herald!

PenbrookMS  Thank You Penbrook Middle School!

A group of 9th graders and teachers from Penbrook Middle School recently volunteered at the ReStore for their school's day of service and helped spruce up the ReStore grounds - sweeping, weeding, debris removal, spring cleaning and much more!  Thanks to all of their hard work, our grass, garden beds and building entrances looks great!
