Time
I was speaking to a friend of mine last week about the uniqueness of cultures related to time. Some have very punctual expectations and others, well not so much. Did you know there are cultures in the world that don't have a word for "minute" or "hour"? They simply have no need or desire to measure time in such short increments. I know that to a large degree that would be impossible in the United States but it started some thoughts in my mind about the work of Habitat for Humanity. In some respects, we do not talk about minutes and hours. I wish that the task of providing safe, decent and affordable homes to low income families could be accomplished within the time frame of minutes and hours. We would start out building in the morning and turn the keys over to a partner family in the evening. Building a home for a family is a long term commitment. And the result of this long term commitment transforms our partner families each step in the journey.
The work of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County is to partner with people over a period of years to walk hand in hand with them in watching thousands of people and untold resources be directed towards eliminating poverty housing in our community. Every day that I serve here at Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, I am inspired by the people and the vision we have to eliminate poverty housing. It's a big vision. It's beyond one person or one organization but we continue to do our part to serve those families living in poverty housing.
As you gear up to support the causes you love this holiday season, please consider making a gift to Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County today. Click on this link and you can make an online donation that will be used to stop poverty housing in our community.
With your help, we can continue to provide a vital service to those families in great need. It's a need that can't be solved in a minute or an hour, but together we can make a difference. I trust that you will enjoy the splendor of this holiday season and wish you all the best!
Warmly,
Billy Dunn
