Snapshot
I was sitting at my desk last week working on editing the strategic objectives for Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County and a number of thoughts collided in my head at the same time. These thoughts were ignited by several people that were volunteering their time here at Habitat. There service and selflessness had a profound impact on me at that moment and I could not help but thank God for these great examples to us and to me!
Dick is an inspiration to me. He is the type of person that I want to strive to be. I love his humility and the way that he treats people. He is a SERVANT! He is one of the most remarkable persons I have ever met. Dick was simply mowing the lawn at our new office and ReStore and he is a critical part in our ability to provide hope and transformation through sustainable homeownership opportunities.
We need more people like Dick. In order for us to accomplish the mission set out before us to eliminate poverty housing, we need people that are willing to Act, Share and Give.
Dick's wife Rachel is in the hallway next to my office sanding spackle and this is no small task. I must admit that sanding has never been one of my enjoyments but Rachael is sanding with purpose and excellence. Why? She is passionate about the mission of Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County. Rachel is a great example to many of us of selfless dedication.
We need more people like Rachel. In order for us to accomplish the mission set out before us to eliminate poverty housing, we need people that are willing to Act, Share and Give.
Scott Knutson serves on our board and was instrumental in leading a number of events for our affiliate. Scott cares about those living in substandard housing and he is here for the right reasons. I get excited talking to him and he is a blessing to our organization. He now leads the marketing committee of the affiliate and they would love to add a few more people to the team. He walks his talk here!
We need more people like Scott. In order for us to accomplish the mission set out before us to eliminate poverty housing, we need people that are willing to Act, Share and Give.
Two volunteers spent most of their day in the ReStore prep room, away from the "action" so to speak, preparing the next set of items to make it to the ReStore floor and be given a second, third or fourth life. Without much fanfare they provide a great resource to low income families in our community.
We are blessed to have some fantastic staff members and devoted volunteers. Every nail hammered, every check written, every donation provided to the ReStore is moving a hard working family one step closer to opportunity and HOPE! Make no mistake, our work is one of purpose, one of faith and one unity, but in the end it is about building hope and transforming lives!
Act! Share! Give! We are ready for you!
Blessings,
Billy Dunn
