HEADLINES
Organizational Rebranding Almost Complete

The OSAP Board is almost ready to roll out a sharper strategic direction for the organization that is more focused on YOU, the extremely important members of OSAP.

You may have noticed that the name changed, slightly, to emphasize "prevention" - Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention. Additionally, thanks to the generosity and talent of the JC Thomas marketing firm, OSAP has an exciting new logo that communicates safety and health, movement forward and the four major member constituencies (educators, consultants, clinicians and corporate). Stay tuned...

OSAP Partnering With ASTDD On Grant Project

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recently awarded the Association for State and Territorial Dental Directors (ASTDD) funding to work with OSAP on an Infection Prevention and Safety Program (IPSP). The program will incorporate infection prevention and control and patient and staff safety into ASTDD policies, partnerships and documents.  Such a program can help link states' oral health programs with other programs in the health department that have infection prevention and safety responsibilities, foster coordination with public/private partners, and enhance the states' oral health programs.

OSAP Latin America Meeting a Great Success

FDI 2010 LA 1
Pictured at the 2010 FDI - OSAP Latin America Meeting - Infection Control Round Table Presentation are (from left to right) Dr. Carmen Carrington-Betts, Dr. Lusiane Borges, Dr. Liliana Donatelli, and Dr. William Torre. Click here  for more photos from the 2010 FDI - OSAP Latin America Meeting.

Dr. Liliana Donatelli reported on the recent FDI 2010 - OSAP Latin America Meeting in Salvador da Bahia, describing it as, "a milestone for infection control in dentistry in Latin America."

There was an Infection Control Round Table Presentation that included Dr. Lusiane Borges, Dr. Carmen Carrington-Betts, Dr. William Torre and Dr. Donatelli. Dr. Borges coordinated the Round Table Presentation.

Doctors' Borges and Donatelli spoke about the challenges in infection control faced by the dental profession. They also cited the need to research and write a Minimum Protocol for Infection Control in Dentistry that can be sent to all participants and ratified.

Dr. Donatelli spoke about the contribution that private companies could make to improve the dissemination of dental infection control information. She cited an example for which the Biosafety company, Cristófoli, distributed the Project on Biosafety Dentistry to more than 14,000 professionals including dentists, dental assistants and students in Brazil.

The meeting also presented differing approaches by Brazil and Panama on how to address infection control/Biosafety during dental training. In Panama, infection control training is integrated throughout all disciplines in the dental curriculum. In Brazil, the tendency is to teach Biosafety as a separate discipline.

OSAP is very proud of the recent OSAP Latin America Meeting and thanks all those who participated.
