HEADLINES
OSAP ADVOCACY

OSAP is pleased to announce a new strategic initiative which directs more resources toward developing a stronger advocacy position on infection prevention and safety.  Following are two new advocacy efforts.  We'll post a monthly status report in this publication as well as share information on the new initiatives we're adding.  Please email me your thoughts about this direction for the organization at tlong@osap.org.  We'd appreciate your input.

New Checklist Project for OSAP
The OSAP Board of Directors is allocating proceeds from the successful 2009 charity auction to an exciting new project targeted to community-based oral healthcare programs.  The project will apply and adapt existing infection control guidelines into a simple infection control checklist targeted to settings using portable dental equipment or vans without operatories.  Look for the checklist in early 2010.

NORA
NIOSH (the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) issued a call for comments on its draft National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) as it pertains to its National Healthcare and Social Assistance Research Agenda.  OSAP asked for member feedback in last month's issue of The OSAP Report Online.  Thanks to a great team led by Kandis Garland RDH MS, and members Enrique Acosta-Gio DDS PhD, Kathy Eklund RDH MHP, Joy Howard RN MSN, Leann Keefer RDH MSM, Anne Mills RN MSN COHN-S,  and Shannon Mills DDS, OSAP will be sending an official response that proposes bringing dentistry into the agenda.  We will post the final response early next week onto the OSAP website.
