"I was very inspired by the PEP Talk interview with Dr. Claire Nelson even though I am not considered Caribbean decent...I realized that I need to keep forward in my dreams and the ambition I have to accomplish goals that I so desire. Wonderful interview..."

"Peppy, thanks so much for interviewing Sarge on DC Carnival.  I had NO idea that they were having so many issues with funding.  That goes to show how at times we should not listen to rumors.  I am very thankful that you allowed him to tell his story and share it honestly with the rest of us.  Long live DC Carnival and kudos to YOU for continuing to uplift our community."

"Peppy, thanks so much for hosting the 5th Annual Jamaica Day Reggae Festival last year.  You did such a great job and made us feel like we were in Jamaica.  It was one of the best ones I have attended."

Greetings,

laaf
Kathy 'Country Helpa' Grant, Fancy Cat, me and Ity hanging out after their performance at High Point High School on June 24
We are two+ days away from the end of Caribbean American Heritage Month and for me the month has been hectic.  So hectic in fact that I could not possibly attend, host, or support all the events I wanted to.  I would like to  apologize for the ones that I missed (especially the ones I promised to attend or be a part of) but the Universe works in mysterious ways and since I typically involve myself only in events that are positive, at the end of the day -- or month in this case -- it all balances out. In the next two days, I will be attending the events I insist on attending, and naturally missing some that I wish I could attend...c'est la vie.  I shall take the last day of June for myself because I figure that after running around all month showing my black, green and gold colors, I deserve that.  What have YOU done with your June, Caribbean massive?

Kudos to the organizers of the Caribbean Fashion Show held on Friday.  The fashions were stunning, the designers are gifted, the models were outstanding, the videos and cameras were in full force, the food was great, and the Caribbean people in attendance were soooo nice and visibly had a delightful time.  We need more of those events to keep us connected to each other and our heritage.  Photos coming soon.

Yesterday was National HIV Testing Day and I know that many did not pay much attention to the day itself.  I do hope that the bigger message of getting tested is not something you are taking lightly.  If you have not gotten tested recently or you did not get tested yesterday, you should think about getting tested soon.  As the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) states "Knowing your HIV status is empowering. When you know your status, you can take care of yourself."

I will not be linking you again before it is July so let me take this time to wish all of you who reside in the USA a wonderful 4th of July holiday.  Unlike previous years, this year the holiday falls on a Wednesday so there may be less out of town trips.  Whatever you decide to do, please be safe and take it easy with the fireworks.

Have a outstanding last two+ days of June,
