I do have a blog where I put down some things which were on my mind about the shoot on Sunday, May 6, but I am still pretty excited that once again, I was able to bring so many people in the DMV area together to meet, greet and share their story with a larger audience. We are still out of office until May 31, but wanted to pop in to share some news and of course, to wish you a very wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.
A couple things are happening in the DMV area this weekend and we are supporters so we had to send a special email regarding the African Liberation Day celebrations and the 15th Annual DC Reggae Awards events. Please scroll down to get more information on these events and the persons who are behind them and support by attending and/or sharing the information with others.
Also, tune in tonight from 9pm to 10pm on PEP Talk Radio to hear me rap briefly with Ras Wayne and Tony Java regarding why they are so passionate about these 2 events.
Happy anniversary to my sister, Maxine and her husband, Stanley and happy birthday to said sister Maxine (today).

IDOR CELEBRATES AFRICAN LIBERATION DAY ON FRIDAY, MAY 25
Ras Wayne | |
The Genesis of African Liberation Day occurred on April 15, 1958, with the gathering of several African Leaders and Representatives in the city of Accra Ghana.
This was the first gathering of African leaders and political activists at a Conference of Independent African States on African soil. Attendees included representatives of the governments of Ethiopia, Ghana, Liberia, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, The United Arab Republic (which was the federation of Egypt and Syria) and representatives of the National Liberation Front of Algeria and the Union of Cameroonian Peoples.
Part of the mission of the Conference was to express the collective determination of African Peoples to see an end to the system of colonialism and imperialism, which brought so much suffering to African People. It also represented the zeal and will of African leaders to forge a path forward for social, economic and political unity and collective strength.
Its goals included the complete liberation and unification of Africa under scientific socialism. The conference as well laid the foundation and the strategy for the further intensification and coordination of the next stage of the African Revolution, for the liberation of the rest of Africa, and eventual and complete unification.
The Conference called for the founding of African Freedom Day, a day to, "mark each year the onward progress of the liberation movement, and to symbolize the determination of the People of Africa to free themselves from foreign domination and exploitation."
On May 25 1963, five years after the First Conference of Independent African States, another historical meeting occurred in the city of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Inspired by the leadership of Emperor Haile Selassie I, leaders of thirty-two independent African States met and formed the Organization of African Unity (OAU). By then more than two thirds of the continent had achieved independence from colonial rule. At this historic meeting the date of Africa Freedom Day was changed from April 15th to May 25th and Africa Freedom Day was declared African Liberation Day. African Liberation Day continues to be revered and celebrated by Pan Africans and people of good will across the globe, and May 25 is etched in the collective memory of Africans everywhere, as the DAY of Africa's collective rise above colonial rule and the beginning of its collective journey toward self determination.
On this Friday, May 25, The I-niversal Development of Ras Tafari Inc. in collaboration with the Bambou and Strykers Posse will celebrate African Liberation Day at The Bambou Lounge, one of Baltimore's premier Culture centers.
This year's event will pay the usual tribute to the Father of African liberation, Emperor Haile Selassie I, and a special tribute will be paid to Reggae icon Robert 'Nesta' Marley. The event will also highlight the positive works of local liberators who continue to use their lives and talents as visible examples of self determination, cooperative economics, faith and unity. Those to be honored include Strykers Posse Reggae Band, Sandi Mallory, Akua Benjamin, Baba Ras Marcus, and Papa Wabe.
