"Peppy, thanks to you again for your gift of bringing out the best in people.  I was glued to your Facebook page from the moment you mentioned you were going to Ghana, and through you, I felt like I was on the continent.  You are so golden that at times I wonder if you know it, because you are also very humble and do what you do for the love of it.  PLEASE never stop because folks like me will cease to live vicariously through you."

Today is International Women's Day and the theme is 'Connecting girls...inspiring futures.'

I really like that concept and am reminded of  growing up and learning from my elders at a very tender age; abandoning my peers to be in their company, hanging on to their every word, soaking up their wisdom like a sponge, and always feeling inspired after being with them.  It is THAT original foundation which has shaped me into the woman I am today.  That early foundation is also one of the reasons why I share my experiences and knowledge with girls and women in my comings and goings.  I am a huge advocate of paying it forward.

Especially during March, I encourage my women folk to seriously think about finding a young lady to mentor.  It is critical that we think of how as a community we have a responsibility to uplift the younger generation and if we cannot save all of them, we can at least do our best to save one!

While you go about your business, please also be reminded that sometimes the mentor is not necessarily the older one in that relationship.  At present, I am a mentor for someone 15 years my senior and our relationship is beautiful.

Speaking of "senior," today at 11:00am, I will be among the guests on Sister Ayo Handy Kendi's 'The Saging Baby Boomer" show.  I will be joined by Akilah Karima aka Lydia McDaniel, the UNIA-ACL's Chuck Banks and others as we speak about the upcoming visit of the Ghanaian Queen Mothers to Washington, DC (March 19).  See flier below with more information on that event, but listen to the Radio Show at http://www.innerlightradio.com if you feel so inclined.

This week, I will share a part of President Obama's Proclamation for Women's History Month with you.  Continued to inspire and be inspired as you go about your business this month.

PRESIDENTIAL PROCLAMATION FOR WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH

obama

As Americans, ours is a legacy of bold independence and passionate belief in fairness and justice for all. For generations, this intrepid spirit has driven women pioneers to challenge injustices and shatter ceilings in pursuit of full and enduring equality. During Women's History Month, we commemorate their struggles, celebrate centuries of progress, and reaffirm our steadfast commitment to the rights, security, and dignity of women in America and around the world.

We see the arc of the American story in the dynamic women who shaped our present and the groundbreaking girls who will steer our future. Forty-one years ago, when former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt confronted President John F. Kennedy about the lack of women in government, he appointed her the head of a commission to address the status of women in America and the discrimination they routinely faced. Though the former First Lady passed away before the commission finished its work, its report would spur action across our country and galvanize a movement toward true gender parity. Our Nation stands stronger for that righteous struggle, and last March my Administration was proud to release the first comprehensive Federal report on the status of American women since President Kennedy's commission in 1963. Today, women serve as leaders throughout industry, civil society, and government, and their outstanding achievements affirm to our daughters and sons that no dream is beyond their reach.

TIME FOR SPRING CLEANING with Dunori

dunori
Many of us forget that our insides need periodical cleaning just as our outsides do.  The main reason for this is because every time we over-eat (which can be determined by when we get "the itis") it gives our digestive system more work than it can handle so what doesn't/can't move through the colon timely gets stored in other parts of the body until it can be dealt with.  Now, just like any food stored somewhere for a long amount of time in an environment that is 98.6 degrees (F), it will eventually begin to ferment and/or putrefy.  These can be harmful to the body and the best way to remedy this consequence of over-eating is to under-eat, better known as fasting.  This serves as a break from our routine ways of eating to allot the body time to focus on breaking down those substances that have been "put in storage."  Since most of us are probably used to eating 3 times per day, along with occasional snacking in-between, the best choice for the kind of  fasting we do would be to continue that same pattern but replacing solid food with liquid (fresh squeezed vegetable/fruit juice or any other all natural non-fat liquid).  This will give your body's interior a nice rinse without any fiberous material the digestive system must come back from its well-earned vacation to dissect

This may seem rather drastic for some so it is good to do it with a partner or group for support especially when doing it for the first time. One such group named D.M.V. Outreach will be conducting its annual Spring 7 day fast March 18 - 24, 2012 with over 2 dozen supporting participants.  For those interested in doing the fast and would like to join the free support group, please email
