pepsflash
Flash (Belize) of myKEEtv and me repping PEP Talk...we go back over 10 years from Black Voices days
Family,

This past weekend was sheer bliss for me, as I went to the beautiful state of Florida and spent some down-time chilling, partying, and indulging in all things sweet.  Just driving through Miami in itself makes me giddy.
Now, truth be told, I really am NOT a carnival person...that phase of my life ended when I left Jamaica over 8 years ago.  Shocking, right?
I am not a watcher and typically never enjoy Carnival unless I am in costume, drinking rum, wining, and getting on bad, BUT this past weekend, something deep inside said "Just go, Peps...just go" and can I tell you that my little inner voice never disappoints? I am still smiling at the beauty of it all.  The costumes were beautiful, the revelers were soooo into it, the music was great, the energy did TUN UP TIL IT BUCK and vibes was electric.  The one word I would use to describe the overall behavior of people is "WUTLISS" and I mean that in the nicest of ways.  The weather sucked on some days but all in all, it was great!
I had way too much fun partying and enjoying being a watcher of the Carnival Parade, but the highlight of my weekend was reconnecting with friends I had not seen in 2 months to 25 years!
I got excited on getting in and spending time with one of my favorite people in my past who may as well have rolled out the red carpet for me.  I had not seen him in over 12 years but it felt as if time stood still wen we reconnected.  Have YOU ever been in a situation like that?  Golden, right?  YES!
I partied, had dinner and lunch, and went shopping with girlfriends I had not seen in 9 months.  Isn't it lovely to have those types of girlfriends, ladies?  The ones who totally get you and understand how to be a great friend without all the BS...
I "bucked up" friends I met back in the day (over 10 years ago) on Black Voices Chat Room and in person years ago, and everything felt so familiar.  Do you have any of those special friendships which were born out of an internet connection and blossomed into something much bigger and better?
I was jumping up and down like a little kid when I happened to stumble upon high school class mates I had not seen in over 20 years!  Have you ever reconnected with those you went to school with and all you can do is smile like you are still in your teens and talk about high school days?
All I can say is that when you do things that are unplanned and it ends up to be a beautiful experience and filled with unexpected pleasures, you cannot help but to keep smiling.
I was smiling all weekend and even now when I reminisce, I cannot stop the smiles from taking over my face.  To all my friends who told me that I have not changed one bit and am the same fun-loving, crazy, peppy, etc., and beautiful spirit I have always been; I love you too.

Let's toast to renewing connections of the past...social networking sites are great to have the online connection, but sometimes you have to get up and GO to experience the REAL thing.
Big ups to Tony, Lora, Dionne, Flash, Simone, Dino, Jason, Jah Vibes, Vlad, and Darnell.  Big ups to the DC crew who I saw on the road, and all the new folks I met this past weekend.  Big ups to all of us who continue to listen to that little inner voice :-)

October 19 is Love Your Body Day...I love my body for a number of reasons but mostly because even though it has changed over the years, I still smile when I see myself naked.
Do you love your body enough to keep taking care of it?  Think about that and also send me one sentence saying WHY YOU LOVE YOUR BODY so we can feature it in next week's Newsletter.  You may also send a photo with the statement and of course, we can keep this anonymous if you prefer to go that route.

Yours in health,

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out.  It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being.  We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit.

TUNE IN TONIGHT AT
FOR AN EXCITING PEP TALK RADIO SHOW WITH
KWAME OSEI
(LIVE FROM GHANA) AND
OLU YEMISI
(LIVE FROM DC).

kwameosei

Kwame Osei is from the Ashanti people of Ghana. In Ashanti culture when a child is born on a particular day a name is assigned to that child. Therefore since he was born on a Saturday, the male name Kwame was assigned to him by his parents.Osei is a typical Ashanti name and is the family name of Kwame's father which means "one who is humble."

Although Kwame was born in the UK in July 1969, he has NEVER considered himself British.  He says "In actual fact those like me born in the UK are officially classified as 'Ethnic Minorities' - this despite holding a British passport and more importantly that Afrikan/Black people are the ORIGINAL people of Britain/UK."  Kwame's upbringing was strictly Afrikan and his parents drilled in into him at a very early age that although he was born in the UK, he was and always will be Afrikan/Ghanaian.

In the UK, Kwame had a number of jobs ranging from administrative assistant to research officer, then acting chief executive for a government funded community initiative called the African Caribbean Development Agency (ACDA). It was the role at the ACDA that was Kwame's most fulfilling role as he was able to use his influence to help the Afrikan/Black community and meet with key decision makers in Nottingham who had an effect on the quality of life of Afrikan people.

One of Kwame's main achievements in this role was the significant increase in recruitment of Afrikan/Black teachers in Nottingham City council schools as a result of the innovative Black Teachers Taster Course.

Kwame now lives in Ghana and does a lot of media work, firstly as a freelance journalist writing in a number of publications and secondly appearing on mainstream TV as a social commentator and political analyst.  He also has business interests in the areas of small-scale gold mining and runs a corporate transport service.
