Family, Time flies when you are working hard (and having fun). Is it really going to be October and the beginning of the 4th quarter on Saturday? Unbelievable. Last week I welcomed you all to Autumn and suggested making new and improved changes to your already wonderful lives and lifestyles and here I am this week closing out September and welcoming you to a new month and the last Quarter of 2011. This week, I am staying on the message of cultivating new good habits and improving ourselves daily, because that takes time and discipline. Since I am a perfectionist, I tend to beat up on myself when things are not done the way I want them to be done. Long ago, I stopped beating up on others because I realized that at the end of the day, everyone does not move to MY drum and the things that are urgent or important to me, might not be the same things that make others want to get up and DO. These days, the really good habit I am trying to cultivate is patience since I have failed at trying to clone myself. I have conquered tolerance but I am working daily on improving patience, and it is hard! Consistency is key so I keep counting and chanting, even when I really want to beat up on someone besides myself for a change :-) Be well, and I will wait patiently until we meet again in cyberspace. TRIBUTE TO KWAME NKRUMAH (contd.)
Kwame Osei
Kwame Nkrumah was also well aware that without industrialization, Ghana was going nowhere. The vision for this grand scheme was founded on the Volta River Project, a huge project that sought to explore Ghana's vast bauxite reserves to process it into aluminum.
To do this required a smelter which cannot function without cheap electricity, and at that time hydroelectric energy was the cheapest form of electricity. Therefore Dr. Kwame Nkrumah moved quickly and managed to convince then US president, John F. Kennedy to help Ghana generate cheap electricity to supply the proposed Volta Aluminum Company (VALCO) to smelt the bauxite and process it into aluminum by financing the project. As such Nkrumah got the Akosombo Dam to be built which at the time was a colossal undertaking. The Akosombo Dam was not only meant to spearhead Ghana's industrial revolution, but it was also to supply other Afrikan countries in the sub-region with cheap electricity, giving further credence to his Pan-Afrikan ideology. The availability of electricity meant that other industries could take off. In effect Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah foresaw the positive domino effect the construction of the Akosombo Dam would have on the economy of Ghana and other Afrikan states.
Tune in next Thursday, October 6 to hear Kwame Osei LIVE from Ghana on PEP Talk Radio.
