 PEP Talk! Now on CaribVision:

21 Islands and South Florida

(Washington, DC) - On January 1, 2011, the much anticipated talk show, PEP Talk! was launched with a private party at the home of creator, producer and host, Ms. Rosie "Peppy" Parke.  Scores of persons attended the invitation-only event which featured libations, networking, music, a LIVE taping of the show, and the pre-release of the first official "pepisode."  Among other things, the show promised to be witty, edgy, funny, informative, passionate, and daring; patrons were not disappointed.  According to one attendee, Lee Sims of Simon Enterprises, "Peppy is a natural in her interviewing skills. She makes the person who is on her hot seat feel so comfortable."  Other adjectives used to describe Ms. Parke and the new show were "multitalented," "history making," and "a milestone for our community." The highlight of the launch was the emotional and heart-breaking pre-release of the first recorded pepisode with the Universal Negro Improvement Association-African Communities League's (UNIA-ACL) counsel general, Faruq Muhammad.  It was the last interview for Mr. Muhammad who sadly, passed on December 24 and did not live to see his final interview.

The show is now in its 9th pepisode, with another five to go before Season 1 ends.  Thousands of people have been watching and many have commented favorably on what they have seen so far.  According to one person "Peppy is definitely DC's Oprah.  Her energy is infectious and she brings out the best in all her guests."  Many of the guests on the show have also commented that they are typically shy, but under the guidance, professionalism and energy of "Ms. Peppy," they felt very relaxed and were able to tell their stories.  The general consensus is that "PEP Talk!" is a much needed production in our community - bringing out the extraordinary in ordinary people.

PEP Talk! is doing so well that it was recently picked up by CaribVision (The Eyes and Ears of the Caribbean) and has been showing in 21 islands and Southern Florida since March 8.  Other channels that are showing PEP Talk! include Carivibez.tv, Caribbean Vibes Radio, The Harambee Television Network, and the Caribbean American Heritage Foundation of Texas.

Other guests on Season 1 of PEP Talk! include Loide Jorge, immigration attorney and jazz vocalist; Jacqueline Hall, a Miss Maryland 2011 contestant; Yasmin Anderson-Smith, image consultant; Cen'C Love, daughter of Bunny Wailer and reggae soul singer; Johann Richard, executive director of Kay Nou, Inc.; Eric and Tamar Goodson of Good Son's Enterprises; Oji Jaja, culinary artist; Claudette Henry of Jamaican Nationals Association; Moreen Wallace of I Love Reggae DC; Fiona and Nicole Wright of Caribbean Vibes Radio; Stan Evan Smith, freelance journalist; Dr. Claire Nelson, founder of the Institute of Caribbean Studies; and Racquel Brown Gaston, lawyer and author.  Ms. Parke promises that the 13th pepisode is one NOT to be missed!

When asked what the inspiration for the show was, Ms. Parke replied "I have always loved people and since I started my own business, I have gotten the opportunity to meet many interesting people in my travels...my passion is to highlight the work of people who are inherently good and making a real difference in our community.  Creating a show utilizing my God-given talents and working with people who are great personalities was the next logical step in doing something else that I knew I would put my heart into."

Ms. Parke has every intention of continuing with other Seasons of the show, and she is determined to make each Season better than the one before.  Because there has been an increase in demand from people who would like to be on the show, in honor of Black History Month, Ms. Parke launched PEP Talk! Radio. The Radio show airs every Thursday from 9pm to 10pm EST on www.harambeeradio.com.

Congratulating Donald Bridgeman on his Retirement, 03/12/11

Big ups to all the wonderful women I met and hung out with this weekend, especially Racquel Brown-Gaston.  Congratulations a wonderful man, Donald Bridgeman on his retirement.  Happy birthday to my beautiful god-daughter, Senu; my cousin, Shelley; my neighbors from  Lilford Avenue days in Jamaica, Jacqueline Hedge and Dawn Simpson; and friends, Nina Thompkins and Audrey Walker.

"This warrior woman has come

fully alive today,

She is no longer anyone's slave or prey,

She is taking back her life today,

And those who know who she truly is,

can stay.

No longer will she live the lives of others,

She will give back the blames and responsibilities of others

where it belongs,

For she also has the bear and wolf inside her,

which is now so very powerful

and uniquely strong."

(From "Warrior Woman Has Finally Awoken" by Lady J-Ann)

Keep it moving my warrior women,

JANICE SEQUIERA-HIGGINS:  Jamaican with a Passion for Haiti

janiceMs. Janice Sequeira is a Jamaican living in the US.  She is an experienced counselor, educator, and filmmaker.

Over the years,
she
has accumulated an extensive list of credits including producer, production manager, and various other titles in both short and feature length films. She has also written and supervised the production of scripts for a short film collective dealing with the AIDS/HIV crisis. Many of her films have screened in film festivals nationally and internationally, including the Pan African Film Festival in Los Angeles, UrbanWorld Film Festival in New York City, the American Black Film Festival in Miami, and the Black International Cinema in Berlin.  Most recently, her films have screened at the cinema arts center at the Brooklyn Academy of Music and on HBO. Janice's upcoming projects include 2 webseries, a crime action drama feature set in Brooklyn, and the documentary "La Belle Vie:  The Good Life" on Haiti.

La Belle Vie: The Good Life is a story about Haitian American filmmaker, Rachelle Salnave's journey to discover her Haitian roots by examining the complexities of the Haitian society as it pertains to the overall political and economic dichotomy in Haiti. Using her own personal family stories interconnected with capturing the voices of Haitians and experts overall, this film chronologically uncovers the rational behind its social class system but also how it has affected the Haitian American migration experience as well. With the proliferation of political turmoil, poverty, and now an earthquake shattered nation, La Belle Vie: The Good Life in the end beckons all to lay down their arms, be it the tangible weapons of death and pain or the psychological and spiritual tools of division and prejudice, and work as one to rebuild and prosper in the name of a new and stronger Haiti.
