Much respect to all the women and a few men who contacted me thanking me for last week's editorial. As I wrote on my Facebook status on Tuesday "even though I am my own woman, I am a part of the Sisterhood."
Yesterday was Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. Have you ever wondered why they call it Ash Wednesday? It has something to do with ashes, foreheads and crosses...Even if you are not religious, making a sacrifice for 40 days might be a good exercise. Lent is also about self-discipline; so self-examination and self-improvement activities are highly recommended. Who knows? Maybe giving up dairy, meats, wine, and other "vices" could change your life for the better and you could actually start cultivating a new and wonderful habit. Think about THAT as well. I can already see the non-religious folks rolling their eyes at me, so here is a little humor to keep things light.
Rosie: So, Mommy, I am giving up wine for Lent. What kinda changes you making and weh you a give up fi Lent?
Mommy: Rhaatid! Well, come to think of it, mi nuh eat nuh pork for a long time, so mi a go START eat pork fi Lent.
What is life without our mothers? I love you, Mommy and I am still cracking up at that.
To celebrate International Women's Day, one of my girlfriends and I had dinner and drinks and got into the subject of love, dating, and relationships (not necessarily in that order). She believes in love and first sight and I believe in chemistry at first sight. She believes that some relationships are destined to last and I believe that both parties have to work hard to make their relationship last...Despite our individual beliefs and practices, we always agree to disagree and respect each other's views. Eventually we got into the discussion of "How Do You Know It Is Love?" We disagreed on many ideals (no surprise there), but we agreed on the following:
- When you wake up and that person is the first thing you think about -- it is LOVE
- When something good or nice happens to you and the first person you want to share it with is that person -- it is LOVE
- When the other person's happiness is more important than yours -- it is LOVE
- When every minute with that person is cherished -- is it LOVE
- When that person leaves and you feel like half of your life is gone -- it is LOVE
My girlfriend and I were about to make the conversation less about us and more about men and children, so we had to turn the conversation to shoes and shopping (a woman's best friends). At the end of the night, my friend and I agreed (again) that we can disagree on many topics, issues, principles, ways of lives, etc., but when it comes down to it, we all want to love and be loved.
I wish you love (loads of it) and I hope that you give as much as you love to receive. Happy birthday to Paul Mack and my cousin, Camille Campbell.
Nuff love and ting,
Rosie "Peppy" Parke

CARDIO IS GOOD FOR YOU
Include cardiovascular exercise at least 3 times per week in your workout routine. Remember 30-45 minutes is optimum since your body doesn't start burning "stored" fat until after 20 minutes of continuous cardio.
Do you know a special young girl who you want to help get the most out of her sports experience? Read on ...
Girls in sports are six times more likely to suffer knee injuries than their athletic boy counterparts. How do you ensure that your daughter avoids long term joint and soft tissue injury? Topics discussed include injury prevention, weight training for girls, improving upper and lower body strength and conditioning and how to improve speed. SHOUT OUTS!
Big ups to Papa Wabe, Ichelle Cole, and Keke Meeks for the very special Reggae Roots and Culture show this past Saturday on WEAA which was dedicated to women in reggae. I hated to part with the show to get my spa day in, but it was a beautiful start to my personal day. Remember to keep it locked this and every Saturday from 10am to 1pm on www.weaa.org or 88.9FM if you are in the MD/VA/DC area.
Special thanks to Nmaku, Joel and Trina from Jamachi Spa for taking care of me on Spa Day. I can still feel all the beautiful sensations if I close my eyes long enough. Ladies, if you get to experience even a quarter of what I did this past Saturday at the Spa, you would make it a regular part of your life. Just think about that the next time you complain about not making time for yourself, will you?
Big up to a wonderful woman in reggae, Etana for her beauty, energy and talent which was on display this past Sunday, March 6 in Washington, DC. As I mentioned on an interview with Junior Culture of DaFlava Radio, my respect for Mr. Vegas (took the place of no-show Gyptian) has gone up several notches. He was awesome and then some and Gyptian was not missed! The night was cold and it was raining, but the vibes inside DC Stars was warm (well not temperature wise because I kept my coat on the entire time) and folks visibly had a good time. Wolde and the crew, big up yourselves!
Big ups to Cen'C Love on her song "Cassanova" being #2 on CVM TV's Hit List.
Shout outs to DJ Solo, Junior Culture and Rico Vibes for the connection and collaboration.
