Who Am I Really?
Conscious Conversations on Monday
night was a wonderful gift of gathering, insight, and inspiration. I am always
amazed as to how much I learn, grow and get out of each evening. I continue to
marvel at the synchronicity of themes, issues, and challenges that strangers
seem to share and it is a monthly demonstration of how we truly are all
connected and more similar than we imagine.
Each Conscious Conversation reminds
me of the importance of sharing ourselves with one another. When we share
ourselves openly and honestly, miracles happen. That is what occurred, yet
again, Monday night. We explored the poem called, "The Invitation" by Oriah
Mountain Dreamer in meditation and dialogue (read my
blog for the poem). We
were all struck with the last line of the poem, "I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you
truly like the company you keep in the empty moments." This line
sparked the personal question, "Who Am I Really?"
As I read the poem during the group meditation, I
decided to turn the question around as if the Universe (or whatever higher
power you believe in) was doing the inviting. Specifically, I asked the group
to listen to what their Higher Power was inviting them to experience this new
year. We later shared and explored the answers during our individual
conversations.
What came out of the individual discussions was
amazingly similar. It seemed that some common themes seem to surface and repeat
themselves. We appeared to all share a similar invitation from our higher
selves and it certainly became apparent that we shared similar issues and
challenges. Here are the themes that arose:
Our higher Self is inviting us to experience more....
-
Joy
- Creativity
- Lightness
-
Humor
- Release of control
- Trust in our intuition
-
Use of our heart rather than our heads
If you take our group as a microcosm of the whole, I
would bet that many of you would be invited to experience similar themes this
year.
We wrapped up the evening discussing the last theme,
"using our hearts rather than our heads." We have been so conditioned to use
our brains and minds to get ahead in the world. This dominant use of our
intellectual intelligence has been rewarded, respected, and admired by our academic
systems, colleagues and peers, and enforced by our culture. However, as we were
reminded Monday night, our brain has limitations. Our brain wants to under
understand everything, yet not everything is understandable. Our brain wants to
control our lives to keep us safe and secure. Yet, we know that this is an
illusion. This is why it is so important for us to shift to our hearts, feeling
what is right, feeling what we are inspired to do and then act on that.
This week, I invite you to join us in exploring how life
feels to you. Tune in. Check in. Listen to your heart. What is it saying to
you? The path this year is to pay more attention to how you feel inside
rather than placing your attention on what you think you should be doing. Drop
the masks. Drop the control. Drop the image and see if you really know who you
are in the empty moments.
As we get closer to entering the
Age of Aquarius, which begins in 2012, we are being asked to integrate our
heads and hearts in order to source ourselves with the love, peace, and Oneness
that is emerging in human consciousness.
