THE INVITATION By Oriah Mountain Dreamer from the book The Invitation
"It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing.
It doesn't interest me how old you are.
I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream. for the adventure of being alive.
It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon...
I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow,
if you have been opened by life's betrayals or have become shriveled and closed
from fear of further pain.
I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it
or fade it or fix it.
I want to know if you can be with joy - mine or your own,
if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, to be realistic, to remember the limitations of being human.
It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true.
I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself.
If you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.
If you can be faithless and therefore trustworthy.
I want to know if you can see Beauty even when it is not pretty every day.
And if you can source your own life from its presence.
I want to know if you can live with failure, yours and mine, and still stand at the edge of the lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, "Yes."
It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have.
I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone and do what needs to be done to feed the children.
It doesn't interest me who you know or how you came to be here.
I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.
It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied.
I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away.
I want to know if you can be alone with yourself and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments."
The Invitation, by Oriah Mountain Dreamer, has always been one of my favorite poems. I came across it this weekend as I was shredding papers and discarding of old papers, copies of old bills, and files that no longer serve me. As I re-read this poem, I was reminded of my search for my true Self - my light, my authenticity, my soul. It reminded me to strip all of the excess baggage away - to discard the pretenses, armor, and falsehood that may occupy my space - physically, mentally, and emotionally. It reminded me that each of us is being invited to embrace who we are - the light and the dark - in our search for meaning, our search for happiness, our search for health, and our search for love. It reminded me of the importance of being alone with myself and truly enjoying the company I keep in those moments.
In 2010, we are all being invited to step into a new world that we co-create with ourselves and with each other. What do we want our experience to be like? What is the Universe inviting us to explore this year?
Please join me tonight at 6pm in Park City to explore The Invitation at Conscious Conversations. We will begin the evening with a beautiful group meditation, anchoring in the new light that is brightening within all of us. We will begin at 6pm at Rikka in Park City (Kimball Junction in the Silver Mountain Building). Please bring a candle and donation.
May this be the best year of your life!
With love & light,
BELIEVE in the possible. CREATE the possible. LIVE the possible.

Feng Shui Tip
1/4/10
"HAPPY NEW YEAR! HAPPY,
HAPPY, HAPPY! Let's make it that way, too! In many Eastern traditions the
belief in fate or predestination is very strong and almost fundamental to the
core beliefs in our innate ability to invite and engage both good luck and fortuitous
fates. These same traditions have many ways to avoid bad energies or fortunes
and also offer empowering tips and techniques to increase abundance, prosperity
and peace of mind. Performing any sort of Feng Shui on New Year's Day using
just one of the Oriental instruments can guarantee all the goodies that any
burgeoning New Year can bring. Move 27 things around your house. Move the
saltshaker over to where the peppershaker is and vice versa. Or hang a six-rod
metal wind chime outside and to the left of the front door. Towards that same
end, some of these same cultures say that hanging a rope of straw in the front
of the house on this day will not only keep evil spirits away but will bestow
blessings of happiness and joy. And be sure to laugh the day away. Many
cultures and traditions believe that laughing on the first day of the New Year
will bring smiles for days and weeks and twelve months to come! Eating foods
shaped like a ring is also thought to bring blessings full circle. The Dutch
eat donuts on New Year's Day while people in the southern United States eat
black-eyed peas. And then there's the old axiom that eating cabbage on the New
Year will make all the months to follow just flow and grow with health,
happiness and prosperity. So, watch your thoughts, laugh a lot and eat
circularly shaped food. And then have the best year ever! That's my wish for
you in 2010 -- your most fortunate and lucky year EVER! Amen.
