Where Are You Christmas?
How To Get On The "Nice" List
The hustle and bustle, shopping and wrapping, baking and merry making....that's Christmas....right? So often we get wrapped up in what this holiday season can bring with it, sometimes we forget some of the messages and mantras we hear sung in so many carols and spoken in so many stale TV specials, like "Let your heart be light.."; "There's no place like home.."; "Peace on Earth.."; "Good will toward men"; and "God bless us, everyone".
Someone did a nice thing for me the other night, as I was out getting my Christmas tree by myself. I noticed a family picking out their tree, and I could have felt sorry for myself for not having anyone to share one of my favorite holiday traditions with. But my heart was lightened when the father came over to me, as I struggled towards the cashier, picked up my tree and, placed it on the cutting shelf for me. It may seem like such a small gesture, but he didn't have to do that, and it mattered to me! It reminded me how people are sometimes just nicer around this time of year.
So I challenge you take a minute to slow down, take a breath, drink some cocoa, and think about what this season means to you! Although rooted in Christian, Jewish and other ethnic traditions, you don't have to be "religious" to enjoy the spirit of the season, or to just be a nice person. Be thankful for all the blessings in your life. If you have the means, consider sharing your blessings...drop some spare change in a red bucket, participate in an Angel Tree, donate to Toys-For-Tots. Or donate your time to a shelter, visit the elderly or send a card to a soldier far away from home. Maybe just take the time to simply open a door for someone that has their hands full or smile and sincerely wish someone Merry Christmas, Happy Haunnika, or just to have a good day!!
