Important announcement concerning the Horses & Hope Calendar
| Later this week, Sarah is presenting proceeds from the calendar sales
| to One Horse At A Time. We are keeping the actual number a SECRET, because we want it to be a surprise, but I will say it's been an impressive effort and everyone should be very proud of the fact that they've contributed by making the project such a success. We still have quite a few in stock, and will continue to process orders until they are sold out. So, if you'd like your little piece of assistance to be included in this check, be sure to place your order right away. You can do that here. (note - orders processed AFTER the initial check is presented will still benefit One Horse At A Time - we will continue to sell calendars until they are sold out - and all profits will continue to go to OHHAT)
One of the buyers had this to say: "I think the best way to describe it is it is like a coffee table in calendar format. The quality of the calendar is great... good sturdy paper, very well printed. The layout and quotes are spot on. Then Sarah's photos are breathtaking... Sarah's lens captures the heart and soul of the horses. I remember looking at it and thinking; I'd love to see the reaction of a pro slaughter person after looking at this calendar... they'd have to be a cruel and heartless person to not be moved by the calendar and I would think they would question their beliefs. To those in favor of ending slaughter... this calender answers without a doubt "why?" In addition the calendar helps to answer the question "how?" because proceeds go to horse rescue. The calendar is simply amazing... I'm not a person who buys calendars, but this was WELL worth the money!!!!! THANK YOU, SARAH!!!" More comments are featured on Sarah's blog here.
The picture above is from March, (it's one of my favorites) and it says:
Never forget that you are one of a kind.
Never forget that if there weren't any need for you in all your uniqueness
to be on this earth, you wouldn't be here in the first place.
And never forget, no matter how overwhelming life's
challenges and problems seem to be, that
one person can make a diference in the world.
That seems to be fitting these days, with all the hubbub over the recent legislation passing that opens the door once again for horse slaughter in the United States. Enormous amounts of effort have been expended - folks telling the government what it needs to be putting into the laws - laws telling other people what they can do with their animals. It's a complicated situation that can (and has) been debated endlessly. But the problem still remains. Too many horses and not enough homes for them. The Camelot Horse Weekly effort has placed almost 3,000 horses in the past 2 years via their social networking. (All the horses in our calendar came from Camelot) It doesn't take a lot of math skills to figure out that if there were more groups like this - making this same effort, that the number of unwanted horses would decrease dramatically. Our calendar does, indeed, showcase a way that one person (Sarah - with her photographs) can make a difference in the world.

GOOD STUFF added to closeouts section
| For the bargain hunters out there - here are a few
| This one was really popular, but the manufacturer discontinued this color. Don't know why, it's a lovely muted grape-y shade... The Pony Girl Thermal Lined hood (shown here) is fully lined with soft stretchy thermal material (think: long johns) It's a great all-weather jacket to throw on for whatever - you almost won't need a "real" coat. Cotton/polyester blend washes and dries beautifully with no special attention.
Below is our Handle with Carrots Hood, in SEAFOAM GREEN. This is a color that I personally don't love, but was a big winner in our Facebook discussion. It didn't sell as well as we'd hoped, so that doesn't bode well for me going against my personal hunches in the future; picking up something I don't love because folks clamor for it. We've been through this before with other products - folks beg us to bring an item on board - even though I personally don't see it being successful. Sometimes I am wrong, but often not - and the clamoring minority disappears to somewhere? and I am left holding a lot of inventory. (end of rant)
Anyway, if you're a closet seafoam green fan (or color blind), now's your chance - this is a great, snuggly sweatshirt - sturdy and loaded with great details. It's lined (hood and body) with the softest, fuzziest fleece we've ever felt. Sleeves are lined with thermal, like our other sweatshirts. Additional side seams give a flattering, ladies' fit without being too tight. We've embroidered it with our own Handle with Carrots logo. Cotton/polyester blend washes and dries beautifully with no special attention.

This weeks quote is by Henry Beston, from August - Horses & Hope Calendar
"The animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with extension of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren; they are not underlings; they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendor and travail of the earth" -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Viral marketing... it sounds bad, doesn't it? |
You can ask my husband - a frequent topic around here is that of forwarded emails - and the psychology behind them - just WHAT prompts people to decide; "I am going to send this to everyone I know!".
We receive a lot of them. Some are pretty good, and others are dumb. Dumb in a myriad of ways... Alarmist email rumors that have been around forever - that folks keep sending "just in case it's true" Pictures of someone's butt (or worse) - don't even get me started about the firecracker butt - but at least that one was timely when it showed up around July 4. Christian messages that are uplifting - until you get to the end and you're threatened "if you're not ashamed that you love Jesus, forward this - if you are, then delete." Pictures of cute puppies and kittens (awww)
I enjoy writing these newsletters - and sharing all this stuff with you all. But the fact is, it's also a way to help us stay connected with customers and sell products during the time between catalog mailings (which is only once a year) So I really, really like it when someone new stumbles upon the newsletter and is excited to "discover" our company and the products we offer.
In all my efforts to make the newsletter interesting and forward-worthy - it never occurred to me to JUST ASK you all to send it! Duh. Sometimes the obvious is elusive, I guess. So here goes - my request to ask you to forward our email newsletter to your horsey friends. All we ask is that you please be judicious and only send to folks who might be interested. Otherwise we are no better than the "firecracker butt". Click to get started. (please note - using this form does NOT subscribe anyone to our list - it is a one-time only forward)
