Tuesday, June 5, 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Drum Circle with Peruvian Shaman Amaru Li
In the circle, we work with the energy of the drum to raise our vibration and to resonate our cells with the planet, our Mother Earth. By doing this, we release dense energies that hold us in old stagnant patterns. We will feel exhilarated and more alive as we align with the heartbeat of Mother Earth. Energy healers have used the drums since ancient times to transport the shaman into other areas of reality. Amaru's drum teaching demonstrates how the frequencies of the drum can clear our chakras and balance energy levels aligning the three rhythms in the body: basic metabolic rate, heart rate, and the nervous system (electrical frequency).
Amaru Li is the founder of ''Apus Shaman Healing Art''. He is a native Peruvian from a lineage of shamans and curanderos (Peruvian traditional healers) from the region of Huaraz. He holds degrees in psychology, massage therapy and acupuncture from Peru. Amaru's vision is to integrate his native traditions with those of the new Aquarian frequency. Americans' long-term savings in stocks, bonds, mutual funds, pension funds, and life insurance funds total about $30 trillion. But not even one percent of these savings touch local small business-even though roughly half the jobs and the output in the private economy come from them. In Local Dollars, Local Sense, local economy pioneer Michael Shuman shows investors, including the nearly 99% who are unaccredited, how to put their money into building local businesses and resilient regional economies-and profit in the process. Shuman demystifies the growing realm of local investment choices-from institutional lending to investment clubs and networks, local investment funds, community ownership, direct public offerings, local stock exchanges, crowd funding, and more.

Manifesto for the Noosphere, the final work by

renowned author José Argüelles, predicts that the noosphere will be fully accessed on December 21, 2012, but warns that we will only successfully make this evolutionary jump through an act of collective consciousness among humans on Earth. The ascension to the noosphere or Supermind (using the terminology of Sri Aurobindo), Argüelles says, will be an unprecedented mind shift that mirrors the emergence of life itself on the planet.
Manifesto for the Noosphere is intended to inform and prepare humanity for the nature and magnitude of this shift. Argüelles brings in the Mayan long-count calendar, radical theories on the nature of time, advanced states of consciousness, and the possible intervention of galactic intelligence. He carefully details the role of the noosphere in relation to other planetary strata (hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere) as well as the history and nature of the biosphere-noosphere transition and the intermediary phases of the technosphere and cybersphere. IONS book club attendees receive 20% discount on the book. Book club is facilitated by IONS group members. All are welcome! Cost: $5 donation HIGHLIGHT! Sunday, June 24, 2 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Lessons from the Monk I Married - Meet the Author Katherine Jenkins with Seong Yoon Lee
Author Katherine Jenkins and Buddhist monk turned yoga teacher, Seong Yoon Lee, will talk about their journey described in the new book by Katherine called Lessons from the Monk I Married. Yoon will start the reading by playing a gong and chanting a sutra from his days in the monastery. This engaging and heart-warming reading by Katherine and commentary by Yoon will surely leave you feeling uplifted. A seeker in the truest sense of the word, Jenkins went to Korea on a whim, hoping to find the answers to her deepest, most pressing questions about how to find peace and her purpose in life. During her first months there, she sought out a remote temple, where she unknowingly crossed paths with an unassuming Buddhist monk. Months later, they met again by chance and fell in love. Though their courtship was long, mostly secretive, and fraught with logistical and spiritual considerations, Jenkins and Lee were ultimately married in Korea in 2003. Through their relationship, Jenkins discovered the most important lesson of all: No one holds the keys to peace and happiness. You have to walk your own path and find your own wisdom through your own experiences.
Katherine Jenkins is the author of the popular blog Lessons from the Monk I Married, which offers lessons based in the Buddhist tradition and drawn from her daily experiences. She is a regular contributor to Woman's World Online Magazine, and the founder of Writers Rising, a blog she started for writers, which now has over twenty contributors.
Jenkins moved back to the States with her husband in 2006, where they became managers of the Northwest Vipassana Meditation Center in Washington State. During her time at the meditation center, she helped edit the book Letters from the Dhamma Brothers, which was featured on Oprah Winfrey's Soul Series in October 2008.
