American Institute for Technology and Science Education Year End Newsletter

2011

Greetings!

Thank you for your interest in American Institute for Technology and Science Education. I hope you are enjoying our monthly newsletter, daily tweets and daily Facebook updates on topics relevant to integrity in science.

But, I am writing with an urgent need. If we are to reach our goals for 2012, we need more help. As you read in our December 6 email and is copied below for your convenience, we have great plans for the New Year. Our strategy for 2012 is entitled Dream Big: Scientific Integrity is Possible--and it is. But, in order to make this happen, we need $15,000. We currently have $8,000 in the budget allocated to this project. Please help us reach our goal by donating now.

Thank you again for your partnership in promoting good science, based on impartial evaluation of evidence instead of mere consensus. We appreciate all you do--in talking about the the need for scientific integrity with your friends, "liking" us on Facebook so that your unique contacts become aware of the issues, giving practical help to promote our vision and, of course, in financial support of American Institute for Technology and Science Education. Together we are making a difference.

Powerpoint AITSE
What Does it Do?

American Institute for Technology and Science Education (AITSE) was founded to address a foundational problem in science today: a lack of integrity. Cheating is rampant in schools, industry and academia hide results unfavorable to their product or agenda, scientists are ridiculed or worse if they present evidence that challenges the fashionable scientific view, and medical professionals do not have access to information vital for good patient care. AITSE was conceived with the goal of promoting good science based on impartial evaluation of evidence, not mere consensus. AITSE incorporated in January of 2009, and gained nonprofit status later that year.

Since then AITSE has been steadily working towards fulfilling its stated mission. After the release of Free to Think, numerous lectures and radio and TV interviews, circulation of a monthly newsletter, and publication of magazine and on line articles, AITSE now has an extensive membership roster and followers on Facebook, Twitter, and its extensive website. In addition, AITSE boasts of a diverse range of scientists, physicians and engineers who work as part of its scientific consortium, addressing current scientific questions and debates and overseeing AITSE projects.

Goals for 2012:

To help advance our vision of promoting good science, based on impartial evaluation of evidence, not mere consensus, the first AITSE conference for scientists who want to be free to discuss scientific theories without fear of unjust condemnation is now being planned. These people have communicated that they need more than encouragement; some of them have been working at this for a long time. Therefore, they need a place to meet, training in how to best educate the public on scientific issues, and support. American Institute for Technology and Science Education is such a place and can provide the training and support. Follow us on TwitterLike us on Facebook

Strategy
For 2012

AITSE will continue with its current integrity-promoting activities, sending our a monthly email newsletter, posting daily science updates, providing speakers, and publishing various articles of interest. In addition, it will increase its impact with a three-pronged strategy.

1. We will have a conference to equip scientists, physicians and engineers of integrity with tools to increase scientific understanding in the general public, and to encourage them to continue their work in promoting integrity in science by giving them networking opportunities and strategies for engaging with other organizations and influencing our culture for good.

2. We will publish a book containing stories of the scientists of integrity present at this conference, thus making progress in putting to rest the lie that all people of intelligence subscribe to lock-step consensus science. Already we have established contact with half a dozen scientists who are willing to share their unique and exemplary narratives.

3. We are exploring making this book into a first class movie so that we can reach more people with our message that good science needs to be based on impartial evaluation of evidence, not mere consensus. Filming may take place at the conference itself. If successful, this movie could catalyze a change in science and medical education so that students are encouraged to think and apply instead of just memorize.

4. Finally, we are planning a collaborative book on the AITSE Bunk-Detecting Principles, analyzing currently popular science and helping the public to distinguish bunk from good science.

To be successful, we will need your help. Please consider giving a generous year-end donation or committing to helping on a monthly basis. We are depending on you!
clappingThank You AITSE!

Thanks for the newsletter. I needed this with my Protandim friend trying for a year to talk me into taking it. We really benefit by this type of science reporting that you are into.

Loved your article about SSRI drugs...

Nice piece of work!  I've just read your latest Newsletter, and I want to compliment you. It helps me see the broader scope of your vision of "integrity".  By all means it should extend to Big Pharma, where billions of dollars in profit ride on trumpeting some very doubtful claims.  And this is notoriously the case in the field of vitamins and various nutritional supplements.

I too thought that questioning was the heart and soul of a college or university. As a cell biologist, I personally saw that the ability to really question, to question the foundations and assumptions was lost in favor of being able to patent, license and sell a product. ...The fear of questioning marks the demise of academia. I do not think it is too late to save academia from itself and from becoming a group of lost souls teaching the young to lose theirs. I appreciate your courage and the work you do to save academia from itself.

I would like to call and talk to you about becoming a member of the AITSE consortium of scientists...I think I am ready to take that step.   I really like what you are doing.

I love the way you take in scientific information, digest and condense it, and spit it out in a way we can understand. You've opened my eyes.

Thank you for your warnings about "natural" not necessarily being good and supplements possibly being dangerous. You may have saved my husband's life!DonatetoAITSE

Enjoyed this month's newsletter a lot and sent it along to some friends. It was so easy to digest. Keep up the good work!

Well done... great newsletter...I never thought of the skeletal systems as symbiotic with the blood and circulatory systems. Amazing that they are intricately co-designed and codependent. I will bring this to the attention of my group...

I am very interested in AITSE and I have examined your website.  I am  very concerned about scientific integrity [since] I am currently facing wrongful termination at UCLA after more than 34 years on the faculty.

Good luck exposing the scammers. Please keep me in the loop.

Details on the Conference

Dream Big!

AITSE will address the lack of integrity "infection" currently plaguing science and the consequent demoralization of scientists with a first-class conference for scientists of integrity where they will:

1) receive training in communication of good science: electronic /social media tools, effective presentation skills, and media/public image training,

2) have a chance to network with those who have similar concerns,

3) be given opportunities to present their research in a poster session,

4) begin to formulate strategies for working together with groups of influence in our culture, and work through the legal system, and

5) share their personal stories of the role of integrity in science.

Stories from individual scientists will be compiled in an inspirational book that will reach other scientists and students and used as the basis for a movie that will reach the general population with the message that integrity in science is both vital and possible.

People who are passionate about integrity in science should not throw in the towel. They should be more determined. There is much at stake.

American Institute for Technology and Science Education (AITSE) is a place where scientists and the public can work together promote good science, based on impartial evaluation of evidence, not mere consensus. Its mission is "...to improve science education and encourage scientific integrity" and "offer clear, reliable and balanced education with the goal of liberating science and technology from ideology, politics and the restrictions of consensus..." Please help AITSE to reach this goDonate to AITSEal by assisting us with our plans for 2012.

In closing, as always, thank you for your past gifts and support. We appreciate you and wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and wonderful New Year!QRdonate
