Tufts Economist Interviewed on Oil Tax Breaks

Gilbert Metcalf, an economist here at Tufts, was recently interviewed by American Public Media's Market Place on the need for petroleum subsidies.  He argued that it "time for these industries to leave the nest and stand on their own two feet."  You can listen to the show or read the full transcript of his interview here.

October 1, 2010
Greetings!

As September has come and gone, it seems as though fall is somewhat reluctant to come in full swing.  This uncharacteristically warm and humid weather has me often question if October is indeed here.  But then I just look at the trees slowly changing on campus, and realize that fall is indeed here and I'll soon be regretting being upset at this warm weather.

Anyways, I've finally finished the changes to the newsletter.  The biggest change you'll find is in the way the events are laid out.  All previously mentioned events from newsletters past are shortened and listed as links to the OOS Events Website, where you can find the full descriptions.  I hope this condenses everything into something more manageable.  If you have any more ideas and suggestions, let me know!

Stay Green!

New Agriculture Class is Informative and Fun

Meredith Klein/ Tufts Daily
You may remember a mention of the new student garden in the newsletter a couple weeks ago.  Well, coupled with the garden there is a new ExCollege class that focuses on modern alternative in Agriculture.  In this class, students have been both learning how to best garden in an urban setting, as well as learn concepts and ideas for more sustainable food systems.  Recently there was a piece in the Daily about the class.  You can check it out on their website.
