This week is Veterinary Technician Week.
I make it a general rule to ignore most proclaimed special weeks or months, mostly because there are too many of them.
I get the whole awareness thing, but its hard to take up and put down the banners really.
For instance, by presidential proclamation (I'm not making this up)...
The 1st week in March is Save your Vision Week
The 3rd week in March is National Poison Prevention Week
The 3rd week in October is National Character Counts Week
The entire month of February is American Heart Month, as well as National Veterinary Dental Month (this was the only one on my list not proclaimed by one of our presidents)
March is Women's History Month
These are not ridiculous in any way. Saying I'm against saving your vision, or preventing poisoning, or that I detest good character would be silly. Also, being against Women's History Month would get me in trouble with 80% of my clients, my wife, my daughter and my mother.
So first of all, don't expect that when you next come in to Kindred Spirits that we will hand you a balloon with Save Your Cat's Smile Week printed on it.
Or you may have noticed there were no posters set up for National Parasite Awareness month ... I got them though. Big poster, bunch of worms, special group of veterinarians had lots of meetings about this.
I'm thinking I wouldn't be an asset at those meetings.
When I had been out of vet school 5 years I went to my first big conference. As I was walking toward the conference center I saw a large inflatable bug. As I got closer I saw it was a flea. Marking the entrance to my conference was a 40 foot inflatable flea sponsored by a group that made a flea control agent.
Handing out fliers was a drug rep with a tie and jacket. The trifold encouraged us to make clients aware of Ectoparasite Month.
So consider yourself aware.
But I digress...the reason I tell you all this is because I am going to celebrate the heck out of Veterinary Technician week. ..except I am renaming it Veterinary Team Week.
You know why?
Because my team has my back and your pets best interest at heart every week. The least I can do is have a week for them.
So here is the deal. I'm going to need your help and understanding on this.
I'm going to send you a list of each member of the team and you feel free to send them a You Go Girl via email.
Tonight Mary is baking Muffin Tops and tomorrow they get breakfast.
Tuesday we are giving them each a special gift.
Wednesday I am sending them out to lunch while I watch the fort. This means you have got to be patient with me. I will be answering the phones, taking messages, making appointments while they have a nice lunch together without me. There is no better way in the world for a boss to appreciate what his team does than to do it. For safety reasons, I will only be doing it for an hour or two. Any longer and I would have the big one.
Thursday I want you guys to shower them with love and presents. If you were thinking about baking cookies, or bringing wine, or sending a thank you card to the staff...now is your opportunity.
I will be writing them each a card for that day.
Friday they get to wear whatever they want. As you have seen, we have a uniform and professional attire at all times at Kindred Spirits....at all times except Friday.
I'm thinking its likely Christina is going to dress up like a cat.
This week was meant to acknowledge the contribution that veterinary technicians make. But at Kindred Spirits, the positions can be pretty blurry. Licensed Veterinary Technicians (LVT's) are likely to be answering the phones. Donna is likely to be holding a little dog while it is waking up, Vicki is likely to be doing a dental.
They work as a team, and they will be celebrated as a team.
So here they are....
Vicki
Donna
Christina
Erin
Betsy
Karen
Traci
Jen
Kelli
I, Dr. Pooler and Dr. Meiczinger don't count here. .. this is about the people who make us look good.
