Dear CGS Level I Parent, |
Welcome to November. In November, Catechesis meets every week other than the week in which Thanksgiving occurs. Meeting dates are: Nov. 2/4/7; Nov. 9/11/14; and Nov. 16/18/21. Please mark your calendars now if you haven't already done so.
During November, the Level I children will receive various presentations to help them connect to the mass. The first two sessions, they will learn the names and uses of certain "articles of the mass." "Articles" refer to the physical things we use.
The third week, they will receive a presentation on a gesture of the mass called "Lavabo." Children learn that a gesture is a movement that has meaning, such as waving hello or asking for quiet by holding the index finger over the lips. The lavabo is the gesture in which the priest washes his hands before beginning the Eucharistic Prayer. Consider helping your child to notice the lavabo gesture from time to time at mass. What could this gesture mean? Is it greater than simply cleaning fingertips?
It is our intention to offer a communal mass on either Tuesday or Thursday of the third week of November for all children and parents of Catechesis. We will send a notice about this mass once our plans are solidified.
The season of Advent begins on Sunday, November 28th. Advent is a time of preparation to celebrate the feast of Christmas. Please begin to mull over how your family can observe this special time of preparation. Peace,The Level I catechist team:
Betsy Peterson, Martha Garcia Barragan, and Mairead Reidy on Tuesdays Liza Bloomer and Anne Edwards on Thursdays Kathy Murdock, Shannon Blaha, and Marilyn Slavin
on Sundays and Lina Hilko (editor)

Connecting to the Mass
| The articles from the first week of November last year actually provide very good information about the upcoming presentations. Most importantly, the "Feed My Sheep" article provides some good ideas on how parents can support the Catechesis at home, especially as you celebrate special meals together for Thanksgiving. Please click here to read that newsletter. Even if you read it last year, there's always something new to discover.
