Greetings!

Lilacs are BACK!
Brief History

Lilacs in the United States date back to the mid 1750's. They were grown in America's first botanical gardens and were popular in New England. Both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew them in their gardens. Lilac bushes can live for hundreds of years, so a bush planted at that time may still be around. Lilacs originated from Europe and Asia, with the majority of natural varieties coming from Asia. In Europe, lilacs came from the Balkans, France &Turkey.

Spring's Favorite : The Lilac

The beautiful appearance and the fragrance of the lilac flower is probably the main reason people plant lilac bushes. A vase filled with lilac flower plumes must be one of the most beloved springtime home accessories. When picking the blooms to bring indoors, choose those plumes with the most flowers open for the maximum scent.  Cut back several inches from the plume to allow enough of the branch within the vase to best display the flowers at the top.
Viburnum
Viburnums have long been one of the most popular flowering landscape shrubs. There are over 150 species of Viburnum. Perhaps the most well-known viburnum is the old-fashioned snowball bush. This one has white flowers in late May. It is sterile and does not produce fruit.
