Wisdom & Wit

During the war when there were rations on petrol and just about every piece of metal was allocated into the 'war effort,' Henry Ford continued to advertise his Ford motorcars.
What Ford did was he created and developed a memorable poster campaign around his Ford Motor car, even though people couldn't buy the car.
In time, more and more people identified the Ford Motor car with one of the good things that were to come when the war was over - the promised land, so to speak.
And guess what? ... when the war ended ... the demand for the Ford Motor car rocketed ... and the rest is history.

When times are tough

"We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and of suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I can say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us; to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.

You ask, what is our aim?
I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival."

Winston Churchill - first speech to the House of Commons.

Special Issue: Christmas 2008
Greetings!

Happy Christmas and very best wishes for 2009.

As I write I am closing the office and the plan is not to reopen it until the 5th January 2009.

It's going to be a great Christmas break and high on my list of things to do is take Charlie my 8 month old Golden Retriever for long walks, go trecking in the forests, write an extra chapter for my new ebook. And eat and drink and be merry!

And of course, as ever, my wish is for snow!

Charlie - dog in snow

There's something about snow that brings out the best in everyone, including dogs like Charlie.

On behalf of all of us, including Charlie, we wish you a merry Christmas and a very happy new year.

Yours sincerely
You are welcome to contact me at any time

High on my list of publishing plans for the new year is a new ebook titled: Persuasive Speeches - what you say and how you write them. This new ebook will be available on my dedicated speech website
www.need-a-speech.com.  from the middle of January 2009.

Included in the ebook are extracts from 6 persuasive speeches that helped to change the world: 'I have a dream' by Martin Luther King Jnr,  'We'll fight them on the beaches' by Winston Churchill and more.

What makes each of these speeches so powerfully influential is the structure of the speech itself and the way they use words, and the repetition of words, to capture and hold the attention of their audiences and gently - or sometimes quite forcefully - persuade listeners to take a certain course of action.

The purpose of this ebook is to help readers to write their own persuasive speeches to meet many different requirements: addressing a meeting, as a chairman, announcing a change in an organisation's direction, encouraging people to donate to a charity... in sort, persuade the listener to take a specific action.

It will be available soon. I'm still in the middle of writing it. But if you'd like to pay a quick visit to www.need-a-speech.com you may see a speech or two in there that will be of interest to you .

Christmas just wouldn't be Christmas without a 'foresty picture'...or two!

A special new year message for you,
Hey

Although the direct marketing world, and the copywriting end of things, are particularly busy right now (Traditionally, 'accountable' direct marketing activity tends to go up when times get tough), there are many sectors of industry going through quiet times at the moment.

And while the temptation for many is to cut back on all forms of advertising at times like these you should not forget that these are the very times when more  people have more time to read your promotional material and discover the benefits and advantages of your products. That's why I've put that little story about Henry Ford in the Wisdom and Wit section of this ezine.

Because, nowadays, with the widespread availability, use and acceptability of ezines , online newsletters like these are an excellent low-cost way of keeping in touch with your customers and friends.

If I can help you to develop an online newsletter for your own company in 2009, please give me a call.  I'll be delighted to share my experience and expertise with you.

Sincerely,

Robert Hayes-McCoy
