21 - 7am, 4:30pm AUHSD Budget Information Sessions at District Office

President's Message

The budget is the topic on all of our minds right now. We just heard the distressing news that the AUHSD is now facing $4 million in reductions. We will experience cuts and losses of programs and staff unlike anything that we have seen in recent history. All programs will fall prey to possible cuts or elimination. As concerned parents we MUST take this very seriously and look at how we can help. The Parents' Club is working diligently with the District and looking at ways to solve this problem. Will that be a Parcel Tax? Additional fundraising? We can use your help! We need volunteers to help. Please contact me at AstridaLalor@sbcglobal.net if you are interested.

Please attend one of the Budget Information Sessions this week in the AUHSD office:
  • Wednesday, January 20th - 7:00am, noon, 4:30pm, 7pm
  • Thursday, January 21st - 7:00am or 4:30pm.
Thank you.

Legislative News

As a result of the Governor's Proposed Budget released on January 8th,  AUHSD is currently now facing a devastating $4 million dollar deficit, with approximately 45 certificated staff slated to be eliminated. These budget cuts would have a significant impact on Acalanes. The Governing Board has hired a survey consultant to determine the level of support for a additional parcel tax campaign for the May ballot.

Counseling Notes

Course Selection

Signing up for next year's classes will begin during the first week of the new semester. The counselors will make presentations to freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. We will be returning to the classes two weeks later to answer any further questions and collect the studentsÕ course requests forms.

Due to the impending cuts in funding students will need to make careful choices in their course requests. Students may request seven courses however it is likely that they will be limited to six. It is also very important for students to give multiple alternates for each elective including academic elective courses as these classes will be impacted.

Click here for course descriptions. Course request forms may be downloaded from the counseling office blackboard site if your student misplaces his or her form.

This year we are again distributing a Time Management Activity Form to help students recognize how much time they will spend on the different aspects of their lives. The Homework Estimator tells students the approximate amount and type of homework for each class.

During February and early March, counselors will meet individually with all of the juniors to review course choices for next year, graduation status, and post high school plans. Final decisions on course requests must be made by the end of March.

IMPORTANT DATES FOR SOPHOMORES
