Conocimiento is a newsletter to share cultural tidbits, knowledge, and traditions relevant to the people of Latin America. This newsletter is based on the concept of 'Conocimiento', which is a process where we strive to share a common experience to become a better community. LifeLinks proudly sponsors this newsletter to bring about the deaf, hard-of-hearing, and hearing Latin American and mainstream community together. In addition, by using our great Spanish Video Relay Services, we take that step forward of uniting families together and truly becoming a village to teach and make a difference in the lives of our deaf and hard-of-hearing children.

Conocimiento es una revista semanal creada para compartir elementitos de nuestra cultura, conocimiento, y tradiciones del pueblo latinoamericano. Esta revista está basada en el concepto de 'Conocimiento', un proceso por la cual intentamos compartir una experencia común para así en turno ser un pueblo mejor. LifeLinks orgullosamente patrocina esta revista con la intención de unir a toda persona sorda, media-sorda, y oyente pertencientes a América Latina y a la comunidad en general. Además, esperamos que al usar nuestros maravillos servicios de VRS en español, tomamos ese paso adelante en unir a nuestras familias juntas y realizando el sueño de ser un pueblo unido para inculcar y hacer una diferencia en las vidas de nuestros niños sordos y mediosordos.

Traditions in Our Home & Our Family
The holiday season brings about a great number of festive traditions and customs. Special meals are cooked and fond stories of years past are told and shared. For the most part, in many Latino homes, these oral traditions are passed on through a spoken language. Deaf Latino children, in great numbers across the nation can take note in the color and the visual aesthetics brought about by this joyous season. In order to fully appreciate and share in these traditions, to the extent they can further pass them along to their own children, full access is needed.
Full and direct communication is what Deaf Latino children desire in a visual language that's accessible to them, such as American Sign Language. When parents communicate these oral traditions and stories in sign language, Deaf Latino children can then FULLY internalize, appreciate, and cherish them, as well.
We at LifeLinks VRS understand the value of these traditions and are partnering with the Latino Theatre Center of Los Angeles, California to provide American Sign Language interpreters for one of the most beloved, and popular stories ever told in Latino homes: the story of the Virgen de Guadalupe. It is our hope that Deaf Latino children, by attending this play with their families can truly become ONE and share in this beautiful traditional story of love, faith, and perseverance that appeals to diverse people, regardless of race, language, or religion.

Tradiciones en el Hogar y en la Familia
El tiempo festivo trai consigo un sinnúmero de tradiciones y costumbres jubilosos. Comidas especiales se preparan y bellas histories de años pasados se comparten. En la mayor parte de los hogares Latinos estas tradiciones orales se comparten através de un idioma hablado. Niños sordos y Latinos, en gran número por toda la nación, pueden notar los colores y la estética visual que trai consigo esta temporada festiva. Para que nuestros hijos sordos puedan agradecer plenamente de estas tradiciones, de tal manera que puedan compartirlos con sus propios hijos, es necesario tener acceso total. Lo que nuestros hijos sordos desean es comunicación directa y entera através de un idioma visual que es accesible para ellos como el American Sign Language (ASL). Cuando los padres puedan comunicar estas tradiciones y estas historias bellas en señas, nuestros hijos, en turno, podrán ser inculcados ENTERAMENTE, agradecer y encariñarse con estas costumbres también.
Nosotros en LifeLinks VRS comprendemos el valor de estas tradiciones y junto con el Latino Theatre Center de Los Angeles, California proveeremos un traductor en ASL para la obra teatral de una de las más queridas historias compartidas en hogares Latinos: la Virgen de Guadalupe. Esperamos que nuestros hijos sordos, al asistir a esta obra con sus familias puedan realmente sentirse unidos como UNA familia y compartir en este bello cuento y tradición de amor, fe, y perseverancia que llama a toda persona sin tener en cuenta su raza, idioma, y religión.
