President's Message
Patty Ladpli
|
Greetings!
It was nice to see so many MAPTA members at the first meeting of the year! Big thanks to Mickey Lytle and Helga Swatzak for their presentation on the ABRSM exams, the Guild Auditions, and the Sonatina Festival in September's General Meeting.
Another big thanks goes to Jeff Stanek and Shad Wenzlaff for organizing this year's Piano Composition Festival this past weekend. It was a very successful event adjudicated by Jeremy Hanson, with nearly 50 entries submitted!
Although we don't have a regular general meeting in October, we still have a lot going on in MAPTA for everyone. Besides the usual organizational meetings for the Board and the Professional Goals committee, we will have a Round Table discussion at my house on books, materials, & ideas that you use with your beginning students. Also, Performers Supporting Performers will be meeting at Judy Ferreri's house.
For students, the first Young Artist Recital will take place at Oakwood Village West, organized by Irmgard Bittar & Renee Farley.
And last, but definitely not least, we are all getting excited about our annual Fall Workshop in November which will feature guest clinician Marvin Blickenstaff. I hope that most of us will be able to attend this event in the Overture Center. The Fall Workshop committee has put a lot of time into putting together what is sure to be one of our best Fall Workshops ever! Please do your best to spread the word to anyone you think may want to attend!
Looking forward to seeing many of you at an upcoming MAPTA event!

Solo Piano Recital Sun, Nov 6 - 2:30 pm
Unitarian Society, Frank Lloyd Wright Landmark Auditorium, 900 University Bay Drive, Madison
Ankie Foell
|
The recital includes Messiaen's music, surrounded by compositions of Debussy, Griffes, Gubaidulina, and Takemitsu, who had connections with Messiaen and his music. Messiaen created his own modes, used Hindu rhythms, and even went back as far as the Gregorian chant. He was interested in bird calls saying "birds are our most talented musicians" who connect us here on earth with the unreachable sky. Ankie will illuminate the recital with comments. This concert performance will be dedicated to Messiaen and his wife, Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen. Yvonne Loriod was his most talented student at the Paris Conservatory. She died in 2010. Suggested donations will go to the Madison Music Makers program for underprivileged children. Click here for directions |
