President's Message
Patty Ladpli |
Greetings! Wow! I can't believe that it's already August. I hope that everyone has been having a nice summer.
Normally I would be reminding you that the submission deadline for the Piano Composition Festival is coming up, but this year you actually have until September 9th to get those in. I hope this extra time enables more students to participate. Thank you to Shad Wenzlaff and Jeff Stanek for their help with this event. I'd also like to thank Cynthia Stephan for her hard work in putting together the membership directory. Between the directory and the website, MAPTA members and the general public will be able to find the most up-to-date information about MAPTA events. As you begin to prepare for the coming school year, remember to take a close look at all that MAPTA has to offer to you and your students. Enjoy the rest of the summer and see you soon! Patty Ladpli

MAPTA Survey Results
Grant Billings | |
This past March, all MAPTA members were invited to take part in our annual member survey. The response was nothing short of fantastic.
52% of our members responded to the survey which was made available to members via mail. The tone indicated that members appreciated being heard, highly value MAPTA programs and have lots of suggestions for the future.
Here are a few of the most notable points:
- More than 86% of respondents are Satisfied, Quite Satisfied or Very Satisfied with MAPTA membership
- Every MAPTA program was rated as Valuable or Very Valuable by more than half of respondents
- A majority of respondents felt MAPTA should offer programs about business and teaching techniques
This survey has already provided the organization with a tremendous amount of insight and the board is committed to following through with an annual survey. Although the survey is now closed, member input is always appreciated. If you have any questions, suggestions or concerns, feel free to contact any board member.
On behalf of the entire board, thank you for taking the few minutes to make your opinion's heard.

Monster Concert Sat, Oct 29 - 9:30 am - 5:00 pm
Barnes & Noble Book Store, 1 East Towne Mall, Madison
Renee Farley | |
Enjoy a day packed with performances by piano students (even some teachers) dressed in costume! For several hauntingly musical hours, ghosts, figures from the past, and fictional characters will take a turn playing the piano in the events area of Barnes & Noble East Towne. Sponsored by the Madison Area Friends of Piano, what a great way to get your students off to a performance goal early in the year.
This is a delightful, non-competitive performance opportunity on a grand piano. Kids, parents, grandparents and extended families love this way to come hear a child play and not have to stay for a long time. East Towne is a fun place to shop, Barnes & Noble has wonderful books about music. There's even a discount voucher in case you buy something that day.

Home Based Business Insurance
Renee Farley | |
Anyone who runs a business out of their home run the same risks as any other type of company. Those having a home based business need to protect themselves against those risks by purchasing the appropriate insurance coverage.
Typically, a standard homeowners policy does not provide coverage to home businesses - and there are various aspects to consider.
· Are you using a separate structure for teaching lessons - a renovated carriage house or garage turned studio?
· Business data - standard homeowners policies do not provide coverage for business books, files or software.
·Liability - if a student comes to your home for lessons and trips on the front porch or sustains another type of injury in your home, your homeowners policy will not extend to provide coverage.
Talk to your insurance agent and ask about appropriate coverage - and endorsement is available by most standard carriers to insure against the liability exposures involved in a home based business and to make sure you can provide adequate coverage to your property.
