President's Message

 Patty Ladpli

Greetings!

Welcome to the forty-third year of MAPTA! I am happy to serve as MAPTA's new president and I am looking forward to helping the organization continue its work to provide quality opportunities for our members and their students.

Our brand-new website, designed by Elaine Meszaros of EM Graphics, is such an incredible improvement from our former website. It will be so helpful for communicating current event information to our members, as well as serving as a useful resource for the general public.

I would like to extend a special thanks to Debbie Yee for her tremendous work the last few years as MAPTA president. Debbie worked tirelessly to keep MAPTA members informed about current events and deadlines, and kept the board organized. As past president, she will continue to help the board with communication and budget matters.

Thank you also to those who served on the board last year, to those who are continuing their positions, and a warm welcome to new board members. MAPTA is fortunate to have a great group of people serving on the board this coming year.

We have a wonderful year of exciting programs and events planned - the highlight being the return of internationally-known pianist and educator, Marvin Blickenstaff, for our annual Fall Workshop on Friday, November 11, 2011. Not to miss!

I hope you are able to take advantage of the opportunities that MAPTA has to offer for you and your students. Please do not hesitate to call or write to me with your comments and suggestions.

Looking forward to a great year of learning and playing!

Patty Ladpli

The 20th Annual Key-Up-for-Kids Piano Playathon will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at Barnes & Noble West Towne. Please note the new location for this event. There will still be two sites available. Special efforts are being made to make this 20th anniversary year particularly memorable.

More details on both events will be found in future editions of Nuances. MAFOP thanks all the teachers, students, technicians and volunteers that make both of these events successful and meaningful.

MAPTA Continuing Ed Scholarships

pencil

Scholarship funds are available to MAPTA members for attendance at non-MAPTA events, such as regional and national conferences, events, etc. $500 has been allocated for such scholarships for the 2010-11 year.

A teacher must fill out this form and forward it to the Vice President (June Zeeh). Upon board approval and following the event, the member will submit an article for Nuances (about 200 words) and make a short presentation about the content at a MAPTA General Meeting.  Recipients will be reimbursed after submission of the article, and completion of presentation.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about piano teaching, and gain valuable knowledge which can in turn be shared within our MAPTA community!
